Job Summary:

Responsibilities include: working alongside General surgeons and practicing in all subspecialties of General Surgery including Trauma Surgery, Emergency General Surgery as well as elective surgeries. Will be first assisting in the operating room with our surgeons and caring for patients in the hospital on the surgery service. Opportunity for clinic practice.

Key Position Details:

  • The Physician Assistant practice will be in General Surgery, including all its sub-specialties including Trauma Surgery, Emergency General Surgery as well as elective surgeries.
  • FTE is 1.0
  • 10 hr shifts
  • The weekend rotations will be 1 every 3 weekend rotations.
  • No expected call rotation
  • The Physician Assistant practice location will be at Mercy Hospital

Job Description:

Principle Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical care for patients
    • Completes comprehensive patient assessments.
    • Determines diagnosis and treatment of illness.
    • Orders and interprets medical diagnostics in tandem with attending physician.
    • Prescribes medications, treatments, therapy and medical equipment.
    • Conducts patient education when working to manage chronic illness or wellness care.
    • Refers for specialty care when determined.
    • Consults with physician when patient needs outside of Physician Assistant scope of practice, diagnosis or treatment plan is unclear.

Job Requirements

  • Master's degree Completion of accredited Physician Assistant program required
  • At least one year of experience post Physician Assistant training strongly preferred.
  • Licensed Physician Assistant - MN Board of Medical Practice required upon hire
  • ACLS-BLS Tier 2 - Multisource required within 180 Days
  • Certification as Physician Assistant - NCCPA National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants upon hire required
  • Drug Enforcement Administration upon hire required

Physical Demands
Medium Work*:
Lifting weight Up to 32 lbs. occasionally (*Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), Up to 25 lbs. frequently

Pay Range

Pay Range: $55.24 to $76.43 per hour The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
