Description
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 20 hours weekly Wage: $16.35 - $17.25 Position Summary: A Barista helps to keep the operation of the coffee stand in the East Yakima Catholic Charities office running efficiently. We are seeking a skilled, upbeat, and enthusiastic Barista to join our coffee shop team. As a Barista, you will be responsible for preparing and serving high quality beverages, providing exceptional customer service, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment. As a Barista, you will work both independently and alongside other baristas. This includes at risk-youth and young adults who are at Brewing Hope for internship opportunities, while fostering a trauma-informed workplace that exercises patience and understanding for interns learning on the job. The Barista will follow policies and procedures for operations including inventory, supplies, customer service, adherence to compliance with Washington State Department of Health. Responsibilities: Operations
- Prepares and serves coffee, tea, and other drinks by following guidelines and recipes to ensure consistency and specified quality standards.
- Properly handles and maintains all equipment.
- Responds to orders, questions, concerns, and complaints politely and efficiently.
- Accurately operates POS systems and handles cash and credit card payments, following appropriate cash handling procedures.
- Keeps coffee, ingredients, and other supplies appropriately stocked to keep coffee stand operational.
- Assists with inventory management, receiving, and storage.
- Cleans and maintains equipment, including espresso machines, grinders, brewers, and blenders.
- Maintains a clean and organized workspace.
- Serves customers quickly and efficiently.
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of menu offerings as drink specials and other marketing strategies to support sales.
- Champions Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives by engaging in an inclusive workplace culture.
Customer Service
- Greet customers quickly and politely, take orders accurately and provide recommendations.
- Provide excellent customer service by repeating orders back to customers, responding to customer inquiries and resolving issues.
- Develop relationships with regular customers and promote customer loyalty.
Other Duties
- Participate in ongoing training and education to improve skills and knowledge provided/recommended by your supervisor.
- Collaborate with co-workers to maintain a positive and efficient work environment.
- Recommends new approaches, efficiencies, and continual improvements to supervisor.
- Performs other duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications
Job Requirements: The following requirements are those that are normally required for the performance of a Barista position. Physical Requirements: This position normally requires the physical demands of standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting (up to 30lbs) or performing other work requiring medium to high physical exertion, talking and hearing and adequate vision on a continuous basis to perform the job's essential requirements. - High School Diploma/GED, preferred
Experience
- Two years' experience in retail, hospitality, and/or customer service experience, preferred.
- Work experience as a Barista preferred.

- Basic mathematic skills (addition, subtraction, percentages).

- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong time management skills.
- Ability to work at a fast pace and multi-task while maintaining accuracy.
- Bilingual/Biliterate (English/Spanish), preferred but not required
Licenses, Registration, Certification
- Valid Washington Food Worker Card within first 14 days of hire.
- Valid Washington State Driver's License and minimum required liability insurance for WA State
- Must be deemed insurable as determined by Catholic Charities liability insurance provider
