What you will do...

Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the person in the Production Manager position provides leadership guidance in the production and packaging, while utilizing all resources (i.e. personnel, raw materials, packaging, etc.) to ensure the output of high quality product volume in a safe and efficient volume necessary to meet customer and consumer demand. He/she delivers schedule attainment and other business results in the areas of safety, quality, and cost. He/she drives the continuous improvement process; identifies improvement opportunities and applies appropriate tools to improve bottom-line results and enhance the Company's competitive position. He/she develops the capabilities and competencies of employees through ongoing training, coaching, and mentoring; promotes employee engagement, empowerment, and teamwork. He/she ensures full compliance with all applicable Federal and State laws and regulations, as well as Company policies and standards related to safety, quality, and workplace conduct. He/she plans and assigns work, and recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Leads and directs all production operations for their designated business unit, working effectively through supervisors/team leaders to accomplish plant KPIs.
  • Ensure effective employee relations. Provide employee coaching and development. Make employment decisions. Resolve employee issues through problem resolution.
  • Implements effective training programs to develop leadership and technical skills within both the salaried and hourly workforce. Provides feedback as required and participates in the creation and use of a development plan for each direct report.
  • Works closely with Safety lead and corporate Safety resources to maintain a safe work environment for employees. Effectiveness is measured by achieving defined LTI goals, OSHA recordable and other defined measures.
  • Ensures all quality standards are maintained and executed within operation. While there is a quality staff, it is the ultimate responsibility of the Production Operations Manager to ensure quality products are produced that meet both regulatory and customer expectations.
  • Leads the facility team on a path to achieving standard or better productivity as defined by throughput, material usage and direct and indirect labor usage.
  • Ensures capital projects make the best use of company funds, and targets product quality and productivity improvements. Manages the condition and eventual retirement of all capital assets.
  • Primarily responsible for ensuring that appropriate engagement and teambuilding with employees is maintained. Responsible for maintaining a cohesive employee working environment.
  • Champion for developing and maintaining a strong "Continuous Improvement" culture within Hanover by continually working to develop a mindset within the leadership and the facility to seek continuous improvement opportunities; this includes many intangible activities, as well as tangible support of CI initiatives, such as Kaizen, problem solving, and loss elimination events.
  • Partners with planning organization to understand and meet short- and long-term customer service targets
  • Evaluates and implements opportunities to optimize staffing approach, to include consideration of alternative work schedules to increase employee engagement while working with HR to maintain a positive employee relations environment.
  • Manage departmental performance measures, including visual controls and provide regular progress reports to managers/staff.
  • Meets production goals/objectives relative to schedule attainment, operating efficiencies, yields, labor utilization, etc.
  • Leads all continuous improvement activities and initiatives for his/her respective operation and is a team member/resource to the cross-functional Daily Direction Setting (DDS) Team.
  • Develops and implements effective communication plans to keep direct and indirect reports well-informed regarding business objectives, results, initiatives, changes, etc. Ensures that the operation's focus is properly aligned with the larger plant and corporate goals.
  • Proactively manages safety programs and initiatives; drives a "zero accident, zero lost time" expectation to the production floor.
  • Develops and maintains the budget and labor schedules for the operation. Tracks actual performance vs. plan using Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics; implements corrective action as necessary to ensure that annual objectives can be achieved.
  • Interprets and enforces Company policies and procedures; holds employees fully accountable for complying with these standards. Resolves employee relations issues, questions, and complaints; maintains a positive employee relations environment.
  • Updates senior plant management on business results, concerns, and needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Responsible for all other duties as assigned.

Job Complexity

  • Has 24-hour accountability for the operation; must be available round-the-clock to provide guidance and direction and address any issues that impact the production process.
  • Responsible for the daily management of the operation, as well as for strategic planning, budgeting, enabler identification and execution, capital projects, etc.
  • Must possess the ability to overcome resistance to organizational change, influence hourly and salaried employees to embrace it, and lead the change initiative.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize based on business needs.
  • Must develop and maintain rapport with employees at all levels of the Campbell Snacks organization to drive results. Must interface effectively with multiple departments/functions in the plant, as well as Corporate Product Development, Engineering, etc.
  • Must possess the ability to train a diverse group of salaried and hourly employees, adapting training programs and presentation style to fit the audience.

What you bring to the table...

  • Minimum education required: High school degree or GED
  • 8+ years of progressively more responsible manufacturing management experience in a food or CPG industry

It would be great if you had...

  • Preferred education: B.A. degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or technical field.
  • Prior high performance work systems experience highly desirable.
  • Cross-functional operations experience with a proven track record of delivering successful business results in the areas of schedule attainment, safety, quality, and cost.
  • Previous experience managing/supervising large groups of employees (i.e., >50) in a non-union manufacturing environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA standards, HACCP guidelines, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), etc.
  • Ongoing passion to identify continuous improvement opportunities and lead initiatives to deliver bottom-line results. Must be a change agent.
  • Outstanding analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Previous experience working in a Lean manufacturing environment employing Six Sigma concepts preferred.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt and/or Black Belt certification preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written). Must possess strong training/facilitation skills.
  • Computer proficiency in Windows-based software applications (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Possess a "hands on"/lead by example type personality.
  • Drive for results.

Working Conditions
The working environment includes both office and plant floor settings. Exposure to industrial noise, forklift traffic, moving mechanical parts, and temperature extremes occurs in operating areas of the plant.

Compensation and Benefits:

The target base salary range for this full-time, salaried position is between

$77,800-$111,900

Individual base pay depends on work location and additional factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include other forms of compensation. In addition, we offer competitive health, dental, 401k and wellness benefits beginning on the first day of employment.
