Are you an accountant with a passion for ensuring compliance with financial standards in nonprofit organizations? If so, we have the We are looking for a General Ledger Accountant to support our monthly general ledger closing activities and year-end audit procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with monthly and year-end close process including assigned journal entries, account review and reconciliations.

  • Prepare assigned general ledger account reconciliations and journal entries and ensure accuracy of trial balance at close.

  • Proactively work with other staff members to identify and resolve open items, errors and discrepancies.

  • Assist with preparing schedules for external audits and providing necessary documentation and explanations.

  • Assist with calculations and gathering of support for audit.

  • Assist with preparing accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in compliance with US GAAP and internal requirements.

  • Understand and apply the accounting and reporting rules for not-for-profit entities and stay current with new developments.

  • Analyze assigned account activity, maintain open item lists and resolve issues timely.

  • Understand system configurations, monitor automated processes and auto rules for proper execution and appropriate accounting.

  • Assist with variance analysis to support the financial planning processes of the organization.

  • Analyze operational changes in day-to-day finance processes and ensure internal processes and procedures are revised, documented and optimized.

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, suggest recommendations, and implement improvements.

  • Collaborate with departments and Finance functional divisions to meet organizational needs, enhance high performance, and ensure quality customer service in developing and implementing ASCO's financial systems, data quality, compliance, and reporting.

  • Cross training in other accounting functions and responsibilities is required.

  • Perform other related duties and special projects as needed.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field or equivalent years of experience

  • 2 - 3 years of relevant experience with general ledger accounting or related field

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

  • Proficiency in Excel for data analysis, modeling, and financial reporting.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • 3+ years professional accounting experience

  • Experience with state-of-the-art financial management systems, such as Oracle Cloud ERP.

  • Experience with cash management and bank reconciliation functions

  • Ability to communicate clearly, escalate matters timely, and recognize when additional support is required.

  • Strong customer service orientation.
