JOB TITLE: Alpine Race Coach

DIVISION: SolitudeSki & Ride School

REPORTS TO: Teams Manager

LOCATION: Solitude Ski & Ride School

CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time/ Seasonal/ Hourly

POSITION:

To mentor and coach athletes in Team Solitude race programming with an enthusiastic and professional manner. Assist the athletes to set and achieve goals in advanced skiing technique, prioritize safety, inspires lifelong mountain knowledge, and promotes enjoyment in the sport and success in competition.

SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates MUST be available weekends during the winter season to be considered for a coaching position. Team practices run every Saturday and Sunday throughout most of the season, with certain groups attending additional night training or weekday training.
  • Advanced level skiing skills and knowledge as indicated by demonstration to leadership. Preferred Level 1 and/or Level 2 PSIA certification, Level 100 and/or Level 200 USSA certification, and/or the motivation and willingness to obtain these certifications during the first season of employment.
  • It's preferred to have a minimum of one season in an organized US Ski and Snowboard, or high school program. Competition experience at the IFSA, US Ski and Snowboard and/or FIS level is a plus. At least one year of experience as an instructor in an organized ski school is also desirable. Candidates must be motivated and willing to complete the PSIA Level 1 and/or Level 2 instructor certification during the first year of employment, if they don't have these certifications already.
  • Familiarity with US Ski and Snowboard training programs, such as Skills Quest.
  • Must understand current USSA rules, equipment requirements and judging criteria.
  • Experience with Alpine race equipment, course setup, timing systems and athlete drills
  • Excellent people skills are required to effectively communicate with athletes, parents, other coaches, mountain employees and guests on the mountain.
  • Conduct daily training for athletes as directed and scheduled by leadership.
  • Have high standards for safety in all training environments.
  • Assure that all facilities and equipment are properly maintained and stored.
  • Shoot video and conduct video analysis sessions with athletes regularly.
  • If directed by leadership, conduct athlete goal setting meetings at start of the season and review throughout season.
  • Be responsible for on-hill coaching duties and possible travel to competition events.
  • Provide feedback and coaching daily to athletes and submit written year end evaluations on each athlete.
  • Communicate any needs to perform job exceptionally to leadership
  • Participate in coaches' meetings, briefings, and other professional functions as directed by the Program Manager.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mountain Environment:

  • The primary outdoor environment requires tolerance to exposures such as cold, snow, wind, rain, sun, high altitude, extreme heights, extreme terrain, lightning, etc...
  • Strenuous physical activity requires excellent physical fitness and may include skiing in all possible variable snow conditions and hiking in challenging terrain with equipment.
