Who we are looking for:

ASCO is in search of a high-performing Associate Director who brings a passion for developing the careers of oncology professionals. The successful hire will provide programmatic and operational oversight in the design, development, implementation, evaluation, maintenance, and growth of leadership development and mentorship programs for ASCO members, in addition to supervising and coaching staff supporting these programs. This position is hybrid with a primary location in Alexandria, VA. We anticipate the hire to be onsite approximately 1-2 days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and oversee the execution of a comprehensive leadership development program strategy and framework to ensure alignment of leadership programs' purpose, timing, and audiences to foster continual engagement with ASCO and provide a framework for consideration of the addition of new programs to the portfolio.
  • Collaborate and provide guidance to vendors and SMEs developing content to meet program needs.
  • Lead project teams to successfully develop, implement, maintain, evaluate and document a comprehensive portfolio of ASCO's mentoring and leadership development programs that meet the specific needs of ASCO members at various stages of their career.
  • Develop collaborative cross-departmental partnerships to align the delivery of ASCO mentoring programs by creating points of connection for members, streamlining workflows, and by serving as a consultant throughout ASCO.
  • Oversee the development and execution of activities for women in oncology, including the events at the Annual Meeting.
  • Monitor sister society programs and their potential impact on ASCO projects, and establish relationships with external partners and stakeholders to develop effective programming that meets shared goals, as well as build and sustain open and effective communication channels.
  • Anticipate unmet professional development needs of our members and identify new opportunities to support their professional growth.
  • Supervise and mentor staff to achieve their results and career goals through mentorship, feedback, and task delegation.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in related field or equivalent years of training and experience
  • 7+ years' experience developing and leading programs, with educational-related programs as a plus
  • 3 years of supervisory experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook); and an openness to embracing and mastering new technology

  • Ability to drive execution of initiatives, actively supporting or leading initiatives to closure
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to delegate, motivate and develop staff, including sharing specialized approaches and skills that will increase capabilities
  • Ability to master various technology, web, and data management systems

ADA/Physical Requirements

Fast-paced office environment with extended periods seated or standing at a desk.

High use of computer and other office technology equipment.

Travel

11-20 days/yr including possible international travel
