Job Description

We are seeking a Policy Writer with a Secret Clearance!A federal healthcare IT program is seeking a Technical Policy Writer. Responsibilities are to ensure that the government customer's practices are documented, understood, and followed; and contributing to regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and risk management. Responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining documentation that outlines policies, procedures, and guidelines, often focusing on technical or complex subjects.

  • A week in the life of our Technical Policy Writer:
  • Conduct research to understand subject matter, including gathering information from subject matter experts (SMEs) and other resources.
  • Analyze policies and technical information to ensure accuracy and relevance.
  • Develop clear, concise, and coherent documents such as policies, procedures, manuals, and guidelines tailored for effective comprehension by the targeted audience.
  • Collaborate with policy stakeholders and subject matter experts in IT, cyber security, compliance, and management, to capture inputs and ensure policies align with customer goals and cyber security requirements. Facilitate meetings or interviews with stakeholders to gather information.
  • Regularly review and update policies as necessary to reflect changes in laws, regulations, or organizational practices. Keep track of industry trends and best practices to ensure policies remain relevant and effective.
  • Ensure that documentation complies with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational standards. Work closely with compliance teams to align policies with regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the development of training materials and programs to educate employees about new or revised policies. Communicate changes in policies across the organization effectively.
  • Organize and maintain a repository of policies and related documents for easy access by authorized personnel. Implement document management solutions to streamline policy development and maintenance.


Job Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • 5+ years experience
  • Active DoD SECRET clearance is needed but if one is not held, the ability to obtain a SECRET clearance is required.
  • Solid experience with using the following:

    • MS Word
    • MS Teams
    • Adobe Acrobat
    • SharePoint
    • Outlook


  • Experience in understanding, interpreting, and applying government policy to an existing program
  • Experience with Government policy research techniques
  • Experience producing quality documentation based upon existing guidance (scrubbed samples may be requested)
  • Experience with document review processes, version control, and change control
  • Experience working in a Defense Health Administration (DHA) environment
  • Familiarity with Jira ticketing system or similar process-based tasking system
  • Experience writing governance documents on a program level
  • Required Skills:

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is $104,000 - $114,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law. AMERICAN SYSTEMS provides for the welfare of its employees and their dependents through a comprehensive benefits program by offering healthcare benefits, paid leave, retirement plans (including ESOP and 401k), insurance programs, and education and training assistance.
