Position description

The Department of Music seeks to appoint an Assistant Professor of Violin, a tenure-track position at the University of California, Santa Barbara, during the 2025-2026 academic year. Instructional duties will include teaching violin lessons, coaching chamber music, and offering lower and/or upper division courses that enhance the department's curriculum. The Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service.


Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

  • A minimum of a Master of Music in Violin, at least 3 years of professional experience and at least 2 years of teaching experience at the university, conservatory or community college level.


--OR--



  • A minimum of a Bachelor of Music in Violin, at least 10 years of professional experience and at least 2 years of teaching experience at the university, conservatory or community college level.

Preferred qualifications

  • A demonstrated record of significant violin performances, recordings, and creative activity
  • Ability to teach diverse genres and/or techniques and/or career-related topics such as professional development
  • Significant knowledge of solo, chamber and orchestral repertoire
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment
  • The potential to participate in student recruitment
  • The potential to contribute actively to departmental and university service
