Position Summary

Marketing is a crucial tool for running a successful high-profile department with diverse programs and goals. The Marketing Assistant position creates a cohesive brand image for the Dean of Students Office at UNM through marketing and graphic design expertise. This position is a core part of our campus presence, providing marketing support for the Lobo Well-Being, Student Rights & Responsibilities, and Office of Parents & Families divisions of the DOS. Duties include, but are not limited to, management of the Dean of Students social media account(s) and production of various marketing and graphic design work as detailed below:

  • Write and edit original, quality copy
  • Film and edit videos for social media and websites

  • Produce original photographic elements featuring campus life, events, and locations

  • Design and update presentations

  • Forecast marketing needs and develop realistic deadlines

  • Design and produce original social media content for various accounts

  • Create promotional materials for DOS programs, including: Lobo Well-Being, Student Rights & Responsibilities, and Office of Parents & Families

  • Post event flyers & maintain information on public displays

  • Support for website design

  • Other relevant projects as assigned

The Marketing Assistant collaborates with the CFC Marketing Assistant and other marketing staff on projects and assignments as needed. The position is expected to keep up to date metrics to track engagement and contributes in creating periodic reports featuring these data. Work may be completed outside of regular business hours with hybrid remote work, subject to performance and schedule considerations. A majority of hours must be worked during 8-5 business hours. Projects may be given with short notice, so time management and communication are key.

The successful candidate can expect to work approximately 15-20 hours per week starting in Spring 2025. We are accepting applications for this position from all students regardless of work study award, though 2024-2025 work study is strongly preferred.

The Marketing Assistant will assist with front desk coverage, including answering phone calls, greeting visitors, and taking messages.

Preferred Qualifications

You will be great in this position if you have:

  • Experience managing social media accounts for a department/organization.
  • A creative eye and aptitude for creating high-quality graphic content.

  • The ability to produce high-quality, original copy.

  • Video creation and editing skills suitable for social media.

  • Experience with project management.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • The ability to manage multiple overlapping deadlines.

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • The ability to accurately assess project requirements and anticipate issues impacting project completion

  • Skills in the utilization of graphic design programs such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, etc.

  • Familiarity with basic data tracking and reporting with Microsoft Excel.
