This is a grant-funded position. Funding for this position is contingent upon the terms of the grant. This position is funded through 09/30/2029.

This position is designed for a leader ready to shape the future of Wisconsin's biohealth economy. Under the direction of the Dean, STEM Pathway, the Director, Biohealth Career Pathways will lead ABC (Actualizing Biohealth Career) Pathways, the workforce training innovation arm of the Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub. ABC Pathways is designed to align education and training with industry need in Wisconsin's rapidly growing Biohealth sector; the Director will work closely and collaboratively with ABC Pathways leaders, team members, and stakeholders, including a regional governance board that includes leaders from Madison College, the Universities of Wisconsin, Employ Milwaukee, the Workforce Development Board of South Central Wisconsin, and leading Biohealth employers in the region. A successful applicant will need to demonstrate a commitment to systems change, cross-sector collaboration, and leadership, as well as a passion for Biohealth workforce development and an ability to explain the value and potential of the Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub to stakeholders and potential partners.


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promotes Strategic Engagement: The Director is the ABC Pathways Chief Culture officer responsible for identifying emerging stakeholder challenges and strategic solutions. Responsibilities include strategies for 1) promoting collaborative communication among stakeholders, including leading governance board activities; 2) identifying emerging stakeholder challenges and strategic solutions including pathways for new collaborative funding; and 3) developing positive stakeholder engagement in the ABC Pathways project.
  • Advances the Wisconsin Biohealth Tech Hub's Workforce Education Vision: As an MATC leader, the Director promotes the College's Mission and Vision to provide a positive learning environment that leads to students who complete relevant degree programs and enter the workforce in the field related to biohealth, including: 1) directing activities related to the biotechnology, Radiography, and CNC programs; 2) engaging with project partners to identify emerging talent and training pathways to promote Biohealth opportunities; and 3) collaborate with project partners to assess labor market needs for improved student outcomes.
  • Leadership and Supervision: As an MATC leader, the ABC Pathways director will be responsible for leadership and supervision including roles in hiring, coaching/mentoring, performance management, and progressive discipline as needed. The position requires continuous learning and professional development to maintain current knowledge of best practices and standards in higher education with an emphasis on biohealth and workforce development-related fields.
  • Cross Functional Relationships and Collaborative Teamwork: As an MATC and ABC Pathways leader, the Director promotes and nurtures collaborative relationships with colleges, universities, workforce boards, and other stakeholders connected to ABC Pathways.
  • ABC Pathways Fiscal Sustainability: The Director is responsible for working with the ABC Pathways team to provide leadership in regard to current funding and potential new funding opportunities within the Biohealth Tech Hub related to ABC Pathways.
  • Other duties: Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirement, as well as all MATC policies and procedures.

Required Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Health, or related field and five (5) years of related work experience with three (3) years of supervisory experience or one (1) year of staff supervision combined with an Emerging Leaders equivalency.

Preferred Education & Experience: Master's degree in Biology, Health, or related field and more than five (5) years of experience with a minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Delegation of Work:

  • Regularly assigns work to subordinate(s).

Supervision Given:

  • Supervises managerial, supervisory, and professional personnel. Provides recommendations on hiring new employees; on coaching and counseling; on training; and granting time off.

This role calls for strategic leadership, team management, cross-functional collaboration, and funding strategy and administration.

Supervising Teams or Programs:
  • Direct or indirect supervisory roles, especially in education, health sciences, or workforce development.
  • Hiring, coaching, performance evaluation, or managing disciplinary processes.
Program/Project Management:
  • Leading multi-stakeholder initiatives, particularly those focused on academic programs, community partnerships, or technical workforce development.
  • Oversight of operations, budgets, and logistics in an educational or healthcare related environment.

  • Building partnerships with external entities like industry leaders, government agencies, or academic institutions.
  • Chairing or co-chairing committees and working groups, particularly across institutions.
Grant Proposal Development:
  • Writing successful grant proposals for federal, state, or private funding-especially in education, healthcare, STEM, or workforce training.
  • Collaborating on complex, multi-partner grant applications.
Budget Planning and Fiscal Oversight:
  • Developing and managing budgets tied to grant-funded programs.
  • Reconciliation and reporting of grant expenditures in compliance with funder requirements.
Grant Compliance and Administration:
  • Monitoring program outcomes, KPIs, and ensuring alignment with grant objectives.
  • Preparing and submitting performance and financial reports to funders.
Fundraising Strategy and Diversification:
  • Identifying new funding opportunities and building a funding pipeline.
  • Strategic planning to align programs with available or potential grants.

Supplemental Information

Start Date: This position supports the STEM Pathway and is available to start as soon as possible. This is a grant-funded position. Funding for this position is contingent upon the terms of the grant. This position is funded through 09/30/2029.

Hours: This position is full-time, 1.0 FTE/40+ hours per week. Hours are varied but are generally between 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday. Some evenings and weekends are required based on student programs and initiatives. Hours vary based on departmental needs. Employees will conduct all work hours in the State of Wisconsin, performing work outside the state is strictly prohibited.


Salary: The salary for this position is listed to the midpoint of the 2024/2025 salary range. Salary placement is determined by a review of the applicants employment (on the job application only) and educational background. Please be sure to include your complete work history.
