This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers you will lead the design and build of the Vehicle Test Bed (VTB). The VTB will provide an environment to combine the vehicle avionics and flight software, enabling system development, verification, and validation. The VTB will include software simulations and hardware emulators, as well as software for talking to these simulations and emulators. The test environment will also involve connections to NASA spacecraft emulators, requiring frequent collaboration with NASA and the development of prototypes for inter-element testing.

You will play a key role in developing our New Lunar Vehicle that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

This position requires on-site work at Kent, WA or at Cape Canaveral, FL.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage a team of engineers, including recruiting, hiring, mentoring, evaluating performance, and overseeing their professional development.

  • Lead the team through all stages of requirements, design, build, integration, certification, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

  • Provide technical guidance to the team.

  • Define functional capabilities of the VTB.

  • Provide work breakdown structures for the development of the VTB.

  • Coordinate with the vehicle subsystem teams to define their test requirements and to integrate their subsystems in the VTB.

  • Develop the VTB staff plans, non-labor cost estimates, and the VTB schedule.

  • Lead tiger teams for problem investigation and resolution.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Engineering

  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in leading technical teams, performing project management, scope definition, staff planning, cost estimates, and schedule development.

  • 8+ years of experience working in related disciplines.

  • Experience with integration, verification, and test of multiple avionics systems.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering

  • Experience with the design and build of avionics labs.

  • Experience with the development of simulations for avionics interfaces.

  • Experience working on a verification program for a complex spaceflight or aviation system.

  • Experience with requirements and V&V tracking tools, preferably using JAMA.

  • Experience with NASA design and certifications standards for human spaceflight.

  • Experience with NASA certification of flight readiness process for a new system.

  • Experience with NASA lunar, deep space, or planetary missions.

  • Experience working on large complex programs with multiple partners.

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $136,620.00-$191,268.00
