Job Description

The Charge Nurse is responsible for the daily operations of the Pre Surgical Testing department. Daily duties include, but are not limited to, supervision of throughput of the patient arrival & preparation for surgery/procedure. Additional duties include but are not limited to: patient schedule maintenance of pre surgical testing, 6-week staff schedule, break/lunch planning, PROACT/Service Recovery procedures, attendance of department & facility assigned meetings/communication sessions, supervision of chart completion & accuracy of data recorded by the staff nurse. The Clinical Nurse/Charge Nurse-Pre-Surgical Testing provides care and education for the patient based on their illness, symptoms, and courses of treatment. They manage individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. The Clinical Nurse/Charge Nurse-Pre-Surgical Testing collects data on patient medical/surgical history, medication history, & current prescribed treatment and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team in order to optimally prepare the patient for their surgery/procedure. The Clinical Nurse/Charge Nurse works under the supervision of the clinical manager & director of Surgical Services. The Clinical Nurse/Charge Nurse performs technical skills and provides assistance to surgeons, anesthesia personnel, and other professionals in the Pre-Surgical Testing department.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs in order to provide quality care to assigned patients.
  • Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic problem list (plan of care) for each patient in collaboration with each patient/family/significant other to address all identified needs.
  • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to implement medical plan of care, nursing interventions and procedures as necessary for the care of the patient.
  • Evaluates the identified problems, care provided, and patient's responses are reassessed in order to meet patient and family needs to ensure overall quality of care delivered.
  • Maintains up to date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to ensure the integration of information for use by the health care team, to ensure quality care.
  • Assumes responsibility for daily personnel assignment/monitoring patient care and overall unit activities, in accordance with established standards.
  • Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the department as defined in the scope of service, to ensure that the unique nature of the client is addressed.
  • Directs other licensed and non-licensed personnel in the provision of care to patients as assigned.
  • Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure.
  • Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
  • May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.


Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • Technical Diploma/Certificate Nursing Required or
  • Associates Degree Nursing Required
  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing Preferred

Minimum Work Experience

  • 2 years Nursing experience Required

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse Licensed State of Florida or eligible compact state Upon Hire Required
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association Upon Hire Required

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficiency in perioperative nursing, knowledge and skills.
  • Possess high level critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrates leadership behaviors
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, & communicate effectively at all levels of communication.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in patient status, department workload.
