Job Summary

Under supervision by the Video/Audio/AV Events Supervisor, this position is part of a small team that works with staff, faculty, and other UCD campus and Health System clients to assess needs, consult, produce and direct audio and video productions. The Producer-Director provides audiovisual support for remote and onsite events, schedules, arranges, and performs video/audio recordings, uses specialized production equipment and performs post-production editing using Adobe Creative suite and other editing software. Also, acts as production crew, arranges for appropriate distribution of media, and assists with photography. Assists in the preparation of production cost estimates and project scopes, and trains and directs student employees and assigns duties as needed. While the Producer-Director works collaboratively in a small team environment, they are also responsible for developing and executing assigned projects from intake through distribution. These projects support the education, research, and public service missions of the University.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

* Bachelor's degree in related area and / or an equivalent combination of education and at least one-year professional media production experience.
* Experience using professional studios, field video and digital cameras, audio recording equipment, and lighting and grip equipment.
* Experience performing professional video and audio production/post-production techniques, including editing of digital audio and video, operating cameras and non-linear digital equipment and using imaging software.
* Experience translating client needs into finished productions/programs designed to meet instructional/informational goals.
* Experience setting up and operating professional video equipment, including tripods, cameras, recorders and switchers and experience setting up and operating professional event audio systems, including mixing boards, microphones, speakers, and recorders.
* Experience setting up and operating professional event AV equipment, including switchers, converters, and control systems, computers, display screens and projectors.
* Skill to judge audio quality, understand sound characteristics/ technologies, and adjust appropriately for a live event and for recording.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with video and audio encoders, software for webcasting and streaming, and media delivery.
* Experience interacting and working with diverse groups at various levels of an organization.
* Knowledge of proper directing techniques and Ability to communicate appropriate directional commands to crew and talent.
* Skill in basic computer graphics creation and software such as Adobe Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere Pro, or equivalent software, for media production.
* Professional photography experience, in-studio, on location, and events.
* Knowledge of studio audio recording techniques and equipment and the Skill to Direct talent during the recording sessions.
* Oral, written and Interpersonal communication skills to create and make presentations to large and small groups.

Instructional Media and Creative Services, a unit within the Academic Applications department under Information & Educational Technology (IET), provides graphic design, illustration, photographic, audio/video production, AV event support, and instructional design services to meet the instructional and non-instructional communication media needs of faculty, staff and students in support of the educational, research, and public service missions of the University.

Work Environment

Work at a computer and view display screens. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
