Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $26.52/hr. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full hourly range for this position is $26.52 to $31.64/hour.
Work Location: Broida Hall, Streichan Lab
Working Days and Hours: Mon-Fri; average of 6 hours/day within 8am-5pm

Brief Summary of Job Duties:
The Staff Research Associate contributes to an ongoing effort to develop and quantitatively characterize mechanical stress patterns during human-derived organoid maturation. Uses the skills necessary to accurately generate simulations of experiment conditions and extract quantitative information from raw microscopy data. Additionally, the Staff Research Associate will be expected to gain - through supervised experience - proficiency in preparing wet-lab experiments.
Required Qualifications:
- Less than 1 year experience utilizing basic computational skills including programming with Python, Matlab.
- Less than 1 year experience using manual pipettes and manipulation of microscopy instruments.
- Less than 1 year experience working in a scientific research laboratory.
- Bachelor's Degree in Physics or another quantitative discipline and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Solid skills in tissue culture, microscopy, and quantitative data analysis.
- Understanding of basic laboratory safety procedures
- Ability to learn and to promote a sense of team camaraderie.
Special Conditions of Employment:
- This is a career position with an end date. Position is expected to last for one year from the start date, with the possibility of extension depending on funding.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
- 45% Characterize Mechanical Stress Patterns - Develops computational methods to characterize mechanical stress patterns during human-derived organoid Maturation. Performs tissue culture, microscopy, and quantitative data analysis to accurately generate simulations of experiment conditions.
- 40% Experiment Preparation - Through supervised experience, gains proficiency in preparing wet-lab experiments, tissue culture, validation of results via simulated experimental conditions.
- 15% Quantitative data analysis - Develops laboratory skills including computational/theoretical development, quantitative data analysis, advanced tissue culture, and operation of microscopy instruments for data acquisition.
