POSITION TITLE: Junior Designer (JD)

DEPARTMENT: Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center (Kroc Center Hawaii)

SUPERVISOR: Marketing Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Hourly Pay Range $20 - $24

POSITION SUMMARY: The Junior Designer (JD) provides design and administrative support to the marketing department in the areas of marketing, advertising, administration, public relations, collateral, special events and public information for Kroc Center Hawaii.

The candidate selected for this position will follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures and maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.

The candidate selected for this position will have a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, which will be evident in his or her professional life and the manner in which he or she represents The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in the community.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Bachelor's Degree in graphic arts, design, marketing or related field
  • 1-2 years of experience working in the field of design, marketing, advertising, communications, or printing. Must demonstrate a strong portfolio of work. Candidates must submit a pdf or online portfolio showing a minimum of three design samples of their work to be considered.
  • General knowledge and experience:


  • Experience with concepting, design, layout of print marketing materials (including signage, brochures, posters, catalogs, etc.) and prepress.
  • Experience working with marketing-related vendors, graphic designers, photographers and printers.
  • A demonstrated understanding of graphic fundamentals, current design, typography and photography trends.
  • High attention to detail, consistent reliable follow through and able to prioritize and manage multiple projects and meet established deadlines.
  • Excellent computer skills; Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat).


  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities will be accepted.



PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:



  • Agency or corporate creative department experience.
  • Photography and/or video experience.
  • Strong motivational and management skills.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES



  • Be available to work a flexible schedule including working weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Create, promote and maintain a diverse and inclusive environment among program participants, staff, community members, church attenders, volunteers and all guests entering the Kroc Center.
  • Work with all ethnic and socio-economic populations. Practice sensitivity and awareness of diverse cultural perspectives.
  • Designs a variety of marketing materials including but not limited to flyers, brochures, program guides, newsletters, email blasts, advertising and other media.
  • Maintain graphics library and inventory of marketing publications, such as program guides and brochures, event materials, etc. to support Kroc Center Hawaii ministries and activities.
  • Assist with development and maintenance of Kroc Center Hawaii brand standards.
  • Handles photography activities for Kroc Center Hawaii's events, programs and services and manage photography library. Ensure library is up-to-date and reflects all Kroc Center Hawaii offerings. Work with photographic, graphic images and templates, ensuring digital files for printers are clean and error-free. Ensure compliance with The Salvation Army's requirements on photo/video release.
  • Assist with regular and situational maintenance of Kroc Center Hawaii's website.
  • Participate in the planning, development and execution of marketing strategies, special events/projects and tradeshow participation.
  • Works with outside vendors, including but not limited to agencies, graphic designers, printers, mail vendors and promotional item vendors.
  • Regular and active participation in The Salvation Army Western Territory's Kroc Virtual Marketing Team which includes meetings and projects with marketing teams from Kroc Centers in the territory.
  • Track departmental expenses and purchases.
  • Demonstrates good judgment, resourcefulness, flexibility, attention to detail, and ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Monitor and ensure adequate inventory of departmental and other office supplies.
  • Provide administrative support in a variety of capacities, including telephone coverage, copier projects, mail handling, supplies/inventory control, events/meeting planning, report generation, invoice/expense reporting and assisting with the completion of specially assigned projects.
  • Accurate and precise handling of qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Work with departmental staff to accomplish organizational and departmental goals.
  • Perform special projects as assigned. Demonstrate the ability to handle multiple tasks with little or no supervision.
  • Provide regular reporting verbally and in presentation format on all of the above activities.
  • Must have willingness and ability to travel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

The position requires strong administrative and organizational skills, and attention to details. This position must possess the self-discipline necessary to perform repetitive tasks without lowering quality of work, exercise good judgment and be comfortable taking initiative with projects. Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem solving.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying 25-50 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds. This employee may also be required to work weekends and evenings.

COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:

The position requires talking to co-workers, clients, vendors; requires written communication to and from co-workers, clients, vendor; talking on the telephone; requires responding to written or verbal requests of co-workers, clients, and vendors; requires training/giving verbal and written instructions; requires receiving verbal and written instructions; requires writing/composing written language; requires reading; requires visiting/working at other worksites; requires communication via the latest technologies.

The position requires the ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive, professional manner in conformity with The Salvation Army Mission Statement. The position requires the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Most work will be on the Kroc Center Hawaii campus. Attendance at trainings and conferences, both in Hawaii and on the mainland, may be required. Extensive travel is possible, including air travel, driving long distances, night driving, overnight travel, and extended travel of three days or more.

EQUIPMENT NEEDS:

Equipment used includes general office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, scanners, printers, fax machines, telephone, microphones, audio-visual equipment and 10-key calculator.

LICENSES:

The candidate selected for this position must have a valid driver's license and insured transportation. On an annual basis, employees are required to participate in The Salvation Army's Fleet Safety Program.
