Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the technical operations of Carolinas Simulation Center (CSC). Under the direction of the Simulation Education Managers, this position will set-up, operate, and maintain the vast array of simulation technology (e.g., task trainers, low and high-fidelity manikins, software management systems, and audiovisual systems). This position will support simulation at the Wake Forest School of Medicine in Charlotte and various locations around the Charlotte area.

The Medical Education Technologists/ Simulation Operation Specialist (SOS) role is a professional, team-centered, and collaborative position responsible for providing simulation technology expertise, training, and support to Carolinas Simulation Center teammates and collaborators. The SOS provides direct support in the creation of simulation education curriculum through different learning modalities and works in collaboration with simulation educators, faculty, and teammates to develop these offerings. Provides training and support for technology platforms utilized by the various members of the medical education community. This position requires an individual to work with a high-level of independence, have strong project management, communication and collaboration skills, a willingness to provide superior customer service, and a passion for creating and supporting innovative educational solutions for leaders, faculty, students, residents, and fellows.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborates with teammates to create simulation education curricula for use in our undergraduate and graduate medical education programs, Colleges of Health Sciences, Center for Advanced Practice, and the healthcare system as a whole, based on simulation best practice principles.
  • Provides general technical support to teammates to enhance learning and assists with the implementation of teaching and learning solutions.
  • Evaluates new and existing simulation products and generates ideas that maximizes use of products to support a more efficient and effective learning system for students, residents, team members and faculty.
  • Works collaboratively with teammates to promote a culture that values and recognizes the importance of teaching excellence and active student learning by facilitating initiatives that foster collaboration, scholarship, and adoption of innovative and best practices.
  • Develops and manages relationships with technology vendors to provide excellent service and support.
  • Develops and maintains relationships across the enterprise to maximize potential for resource sharing, collaborative projects, and opportunities to create efficiencies as appropriate.
  • Manages project timelines and coordinates with other team members to meet project outcomes.
  • Plans, designs, develops, and facilitates video production and editing for educational initiatives, admissions, marketing, and other departments as necessary.

Education, Experience and Certifications:

At least 2 years' experience in technology, healthcare, or simulation field preferred. Proficient in Microsoft office suite. Certification in healthcare simulation preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Works in a busy office environment. Frequent contact with various academic health professionals and students. Requires long periods of sitting, operating keyboard. Occasional lifting and walking on and off campus. Responsible to work in a safe manner. Local travel required.
