I. Position Function: Under the direction of the Lead Mechanic, the Maintenance Mechanic performs a wide variety of duties that are critical to the operation of the facility and the safety and comfort of patients and staff. II. Job Relationships:
- Reports to the Lead Mechanic.
- Supervised by the Director of Maintenance.
- Works in conjunction with all other Maintenance employees.
III. Authority:
- Has the authority to make decisions when on a shift alone.
- If an emergency arises or a need exists to provide service that he can not provide, he must call in appropriate personnel of contractors.
IV. A. Responsibilities/Essential Functions: 1.) "Provides superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers, and patients as referenced in the Service Excellence Standards."
- Perform various duties related to the maintenance of hospital buildings, mechanical systems and equipment. Duties may be in any of the fields required for hospital maintenance including craft work but not at a licensed level.
- Respond to calls from hospital departments requesting immediate assistance in a maintenance problem or perform work as described on work orders or PM's assigned by the Lead Mechanic. In either case, study the problem, plan corrective action, procure necessary tools and materials and do the work. If unsure of action to be taken or if the job requires a licensed craftsman or if a helper is needed, refer the problem to the Lead Mechanic.
- Cooperates with other members of the Maintenance Department in planning the work, helping each other, discussing problems, and sharing information. Direct the efforts of a helper when required.
- Respond as quickly as possible when called in on an emergency (snow, disaster) problem at any time. When required, stay on the job until a critical job is completed.
- Cooperate in every way possible when a problem of any kind in the hospital involves patient well being or safety.
B. Responsibilities/Non-Essential Functions:
- Keeps Mechanical Rooms and related areas free of debris and in an orderly fashion.
- Perform other such work as directed.
V. Reporting Requirements:
- Reports all actions performed on a shift alone in the Maintenance Log Book.
- Reports all failures or deviations of procedure to Lead Mechanic.
- Reports all incidents requiring incident reporting on appropriate forms and turns them in to the Scheduler.
- Reports work performed on PM slips and work order slips.
VI. Accountability:
- Shall be accountable to perform their duties in a timely and efficient manner.
- Shall be accountable for abiding by all relevant hospital policies and procedures.
VII. Qualifications: Minimum Education:
- High School or Equivalent.
- Trade School Preferable.
Minimum Experience:
- 5 years in a hospital or like environment.
Minimum skills/abilities:
- Extensive experience in mechanical work involving more than one craft.
- Experience to include working without immediate supervision and to include analyzing problems, finding solutions, planning corrective work, ordering materials and performing the work.
- Requires knowledge of hvac systems, electrical, and plumbing in addition to mechanical ability.
Certification/Licensure:
- Massachusetts Second Class Fireman's License Required
