We are seeking a Vice President of Tax to join our dynamic team at our Chicago, IL office. This pivotal role is designed for a strategic leader who will oversee and manage the tax affairs of our global organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring tax compliance, spearheading tax planning initiatives, managing financial reporting, and handling controversy/audit management. Additionally, this role involves building and nurturing a high-performing team and effectively managing external resources.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Manage the global financial reporting of income taxes under ASC 740 and SEC guidelines including maintenance of deferred taxes, uncertain tax positions, internal controls (SOX) and disclosures. Specific duties include financial reporting on a monthly, quarterly(Forms 10-Q) and annual (Form 10-K) basis.
- Oversee global tax planning including corporate structures, transfer pricing, acquisition due diligence and structuring, efficient financing, cash flow and cash remittances and general business transactions.
- Responsible for the management of and accounting for US indirect taxes, including sales tax collection/remittance and related exemption certificate management, use tax self-assessment, personal property taxes, credits & incentives, real estate taxes and state/local licensing.
- Lead the coordination and management of outside service providers related to both US and foreign operations in preparing transfer pricing studies, tax returns, tax provisions, audit support and tax planning.
- Responsible for the preparation of US federal and state income tax returns and related tax payments and disclosures, including related audits/examinations and interactions with tax administrators.
- Manage tax department including direct oversight of two tax managers, development of team goals, performance reviews, professional development and team building.
- Keeps current with tax law/regulatory and industry changes.
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA certification & an advanced degree in taxation (MST or LLM) strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 5-10 years of public accounting experience & 5-10 years of corporate tax management required.
- Broad knowledge and/or experience in US federal and state income tax matters; US sales/use tax matters; ASC 740 and SEC financial reporting requirements; US federal tax rules governing foreign subsidiaries, foreign tax credits (preferred) and domestic production activities (preferred); and tax controversy management.
- Experience in managing a tax team of diverse experience levels.
- Excellent persuasive capabilities and superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to motivate team to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
- Ability to prioritize assignments, deal with interruptions, and meet deadlines in a fast paced and growth-oriented environment.
- Requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.
Salary: $248,672-$310,841,074 annually. A starting salary higher than $248,672 annually is based on a level of experience and education that significantly exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale. Ryerson offers eligible employees the following benefits:
