I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Knowledge of basic anatomy/physiology of the heart.
2. Maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patients cardiac rhythms and notifies nursing/clinicians of any rate/rhythm changes.
3. Measures and interprets patients heart rhythm and documents on patient record.
4. Initiates and discontinues monitoring equipment on admission, transfer, or discharge. Performs configuration as necessary. Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information.
5. Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm.
6. Orients and mentors new staff members. Serves as a resource for training and troubleshooting.
7. Troubleshoots monitors with nursing staff and contacts Bio Med as appropriate. Replaces defective equipment and reports failures to bio Med.
8. Gives report to oncoming shift. Adheres to confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, clinicians, employees, and visitors. Develops a rapport and cooperative relationship with nursing and clinical staff and responds to questions/requests from healthcare providers.
9. Prioritizes and organizes work assignment and adjusts priorities based on changing situations.
10. Maintains and stocks all designated equipment, including telemetry units, batteries, printer paper, leads, etc.
11. Performs job responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Harrington Hospital.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. High school diploma or GED.
2. Successful completion of the Harrington Hospital Cardiac Rhythms & Practical Application of Telemetry & 12 Lead EKG prior to completion of orientation.
3. Possess and maintain current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (must be completed during orientation).
4. Yearly Dr. Armstrong training.

Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. One year experience monitoring ECG/Dysrhythmia in a physician's office, clinic, hospital or similar setting preferred.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.
