Position Profile:

The Director of Space Programs shall develop and maintain the long-term vision for the Product Area, as well as ensure the Program and Customer Service teams execute on current and future program portfolios. This individual will have a strong process orientation with a coherent continuous improvement vision for the organization. This leader will possess an inherent creativity that will foster the ability to think outside the box to drive order volume/opportunities by working with the customer base on technical challenges to develop product solutions.

Minimum Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or related field
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in Engineering, Program Management, or related.
  • 10+ years' experience in Aerospace and Military Engineering and/or Program Management
  • Ability to obtain Security Clearances in a timely manner required.
  • Exemplary verbal/written communication skills required for multi-faceted interactions with all levels of personnel within the organization, as well as all outside agents, including but not limited to, vendors, suppliers, customers, potential job candidates, etc.
  • Highly computer literate, with MS Office/PC expertise, and demonstrated experience with applicable systems, programs, equipment, etc. (flow chart, statistical/analytical software packages)


Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities:


  • Actively participate in the development of Marotta business strategy to achieve company financial and business goals.
  • Provides leadership oversight to program managers and customer service teams to ensure that contract deliverables are being met, customer satisfaction is strong, and overhead and other costs are minimized.
  • Maintain and develop engineering and program management knowledge utilizing PM and engineering tools available and expertise to support past, current, and developing products and services.
  • Liaison with Marketing, Sales, Customer and Prospects to identify current and new market opportunities.
  • Develop relationship with Operations and Quality functions to optimize quality, reliability, and costs.
  • Drive proposal efforts to ensure timely submittals, including review of estimates and project plans to meet customer requirements or internal needs.
  • Monitor the progress of projects ensuring schedule, budget, and quality are all on track and adjust when needed.
  • Ability to provide information to internal and external customers on all projects progress and expectations.
  • Recruit, hire, orient, mentor, manage, develop, motivate, recognize, reward and where necessary discipline and terminate personnel.
  • Evolve and develop the Space Program organization to meet business needs and provide for personnel development and retention of key personnel.
  • Develop external relationships with customers, consultants, and vendors to extend the competencies and resources to address Marotta business needs.
  • Prepare and manage project and department budgets.
  • Employs appropriate Program Management Best Practices and tools and shares with other Business Units as appropriate, maintains robust lessons learned register reinforcing best practices for organization.
  • Represents Space Business unit in Senior Management and Operations Reviews.
  • Promotes and brands Space Programs in national symposiums, conferences, trade shows or other venues, as required.
  • Develops a discrete Program Management training program/manual that focuses on development of human capital via a set of standardized training templates.


Additional Duties / Responsibilities:


  • Bring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with individuals, both internal and external to the Marotta organization (as required).
  • Continue work seamlessly while traveling on company business (i.e., conduct work using mobile devices, from hotels, while at trade shows, and/or across varying time zones when necessary).
  • Ensure self, direct reports, and personnel company-wide, are abiding by all safety, quality, housekeeping, and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to all regulatory and internal system requirements.
  • Foster a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels internal and external to the organization.
  • Lead, and/or actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc. to provide constructive recommendations and initiate actions to support company initiatives/goals.
  • Consistently demonstrate commitment to company values.
  • Keep management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
  • Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
  • Ensure that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
  • Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required.


Work Environment:


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/machine shop environment, including, but not limited to fluids, fumes, or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise, and vibration.
  • This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing, and foot protection (as required).
  • This is a full-time position. Overtime and weekend work are required, as job duties demand.
  • Local and non-local travel is required for this position (10%).


Physical Requirements:


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk, and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel.
  • The employee is regularly required to stand (approx. 50%), sit, walk, and move about the facility.
  • The employee may be required to lift, push, pull and/or move items weighing up to 20 pounds.
