Camp Cullen - Environmental and Geoscience Intern

We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated Environmental and Geoscience interns to join our team. Nestled on the beautiful shores of Lake Livingston,YMCACamp Cullen stands as a premier residential camp destination committed to enriching the lives of youth, families, schools, and various organizations through its comprehensive offerings of summer camp adventures, conferences, retreats, and outdoor educational programs.

The internship will provide a unique opportunity to gain valuable educational and practical experience through youth development.

This internship is made possible through a grant from the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Foundation.

Essential Functions:


  1. Demonstrates behaviors and actions consistent with YMCA core values and mission.
  2. Performs duties and responsibilities as outlined for the specific assignment.
  3. Participates in training and application of skills necessary to perform assigned duties and responsibilities.
  4. Communicates with identified internship supervisor reporting on progress, making recommendations, preparing reports, etc.
  5. Obtains feedback from the internship supervisor to enhance skill development.
  6. Develops relationships with center staff and volunteers.


Area of Focus


  • Assist with development of a curriculum and lesson plan for Environmental and Geoscience classes targeted at 4-7-grade students, utilizing our rock quarry and other spaces at camp.
  • Contribute to the instruction of these classes to camp's Outdoor Education staff
  • Collaborate with the camp staff to teach these classes to youth participants


Qualification:


  • Minimum age of 18
  • Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program for Environmental and Geoscience program
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to conform knowledge into easily digestible lesson plans for youth
  • Ability to work with diverse population
  • Willingness to learn and ask question to enhance the development process.
  • Commitment to fulfill scheduled hours to accomplish assigned duties and task.


Compensation & Benefits:


  • Duration: 150 hours
  • Hours/week: 20-30 hours per week, flexible to accommodate school schedules
  • $6,500 paid at the end of internship completion
  • Hands-on, multifaceted experience
