Job Description

General Summary:

Vertex currently operates at the forefront of rare disease scientific innovation and has successfully developed and commercialized multiple breakthrough medicines for Cystic Fibrosis (CF), Sickle Cell Disease and Transfusion-Dependent Beta Thalassemia. In addition to clinical development programs in CF, Vertex has more than a dozen ongoing research programs focused on the underlying mechanisms of other serious diseases such as programs in Pain, Type 1 diabetes, IgA Nephropathy, APOL-1 Mediated Kidney Disease, and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

The Associate Director, Market Access Strategy - CF will be responsible for delivering effective market access strategies and resources to maximize access and uptake for the five, currently approved medicines, and the CF pipeline program. This role will work closely with Brand Marketing, Medical Affairs, Public Affairs, HEOR, Payer Account Management, and Field colleagues to ensure goal alignment and to meet corporate objectives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop US market access strategies and tactical plans to support the launch of a new CF medicine and ongoing expansions for existing medicines, to secure and maintain rapid and broad access

  • Lead initiatives to understand, analyze, and demonstrate the clinical, economic and societal value of Vertex medicines to payers, formulary decision-makers, CF Centers, and influencers

  • Assist in the design and build out of the value story across payer channels

  • Lead capability building and thought leadership projects that advance knowledge of and readiness for the rapidly evolving payer environment

  • Support the Market Access Field Organization in customer segmentation strategy, planning and execution (eg training, account management tools/resources, and POA needs)

  • Manage day-to-day agency and vendor workflow to ensure resources are delivered on time & w/in budget

  • Lead the cross-functional CF Access team to include the Access Escalations sub-team to ensure rapid and broad access to newly approved medicines and label expansions

  • Instrumental in brand planning activities; plan and execute Payer ad boards

  • Accountable for CRM requirements and insight mining, CRC reviews, Customer Facing talking points and establishment of launch KPIs

  • Define and establish Trade resources in tandem with Trade field leadership

  • Act as trusted, subject matter expert on US payer landscape to internal colleagues and external customers

  • Co-create resources to support field pull-through engagement with HCPs

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of US payer coverage and reimbursement environment to include alternative funding programs, IRA, and CMS policies

  • Understanding of 340B and limited distribution SP networks

  • Ability to translate clinical data into economic messages

  • Marketing or other relevant strategic planning and execution skills including: branding, project management, and working collaboratively with agencies and vendors - Managed markets experience (field-based role, planning/strategy) preferred

  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and work effectively across cross-functional teams

  • US Product launch experience preferred

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years marketing or agency experience in biotech/pharmaceuticals, or an equivalent combination of experience and education; Advanced degree a +

Location: HQ on a hybrid schedule (3 days a week)
