Job Summary
The Student Engagement Specialist, TRiO Upward Bound Programs maintains all student and program records in files, program databases, and provides formative and summative reports to the Upward Bound Project Directors. The Student Engagement Specialist, TRiO Upward Bound Programs assists the Upward Bound Project Directors in monitoring activities and collaborative efforts in accordance with the projects' established goals and objectives. The Student Engagement Specialist, TRiO Upward Bound Programs supports the Upward Bound Project Directors to ensure that all aspects of recordkeeping and program planning, development, and evaluation are in place to maintain compliance. This is a grant funded position. When funding ceases position ends.
Job Duties
Assists Education Advisors with the development, implementation, and evaluation of Upward Bound components, operations of Upward Bound component programs, data collection and analysis, and communication with Upward Bound participants, target school contacts, local & Saint Louis University campus community partners & organizations. Assist with the preparation of all monthly quarterly and annual reports. Maintain all student and program records in files. Assist the Director in monitoring activities and collaborative efforts in accordance with the projects' established goals and objectives. Support the Director to ensure that all aspects of recordkeeping and program planning, development, and evaluation are in place to maintain compliance. Direct reporting relationship to the Directors, Upward Bound/ TRiO Program. Work with the Director and the program's Advisors to ensure that the goals and objectives of the Upward Bound project are met. Maintain both the electronic and the paper database and filing systems. Provide professional support and assistance in college-wide activities related to student admission, financial aid, academic advising, registration, orientation, graduation, and overall guidance in an effort to meet program participants' needs. Assist with efforts to recruit high school students to the Upward Bound programs. Supports program support staff and student employees. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the supervisor. Help with the coordination of programming relative to the Upward Bound Project, particularly those related to recruitment, retention, graduation, and transfer. Support and participate in both in- and out-of-classroom lives of Upward Bound participants to enhance their development and learning experiences. Maintain detailed records of all aspects of students' progress including academic, social, personal, etc., that would aid, or impede their overall success. Build and maintain positive working relationships with Saint Louis University faculty and administrators to assist program participants with academic advising, counseling, consultation, referral, and information services. Maintains and orders office supplies and materials needed for Upward Bound activities/events and personnel. Assist in providing personnel and office services by preparing and monitoring program transactions according to established federal and institutional guidelines. Assist Director in the preparation of financial transactions and reports as required by the U.S. Department of Education. Publicize programs and provide specialized information about the programs and services to Upward Bound qualified applicants. Assist in preparing detailed tabulations of geographic, economic, psychological, and social statistical data related to the evaluation of the need of the Upward Bound Program. Compile office files developing a comprehensive filing system. Sort, index, and file correspondence, course plans, course outlines, and student files. Answer and place telephone calls for Directors and Advisors. Supervise, train, and daily coordinate activities for work-study students. Collaborate with the Directors and Advisors to plan, organize, and implement summer/academic year institutes. Weekends, evenings, and overnight travel is required. Assist the Directors and Coordinators in planning, organizing, and implementing summer/academic year institutes.Weekends, evenings, and overnight travel is required. Engage in programs of professional development. Promote the welfare of the institution and Upward Bound. Arrange travel for Directors and Advisors; complete travel authorizations, reimbursements, and other necessary documentation. Consult with staff to plan and participate in field trips, events, banquets, and arrangements of tutoring activities on weekends and on an evening basis. Assist with the preparation and submission of the Annual Performance Report and grant applications. Serve on college committees as directed by the Directors. Supports the overall success of TRIO by performing other duties and projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience A combination of education and experience will be considered.
Education: High School diploma or the equivalent Experience:At least two (2) years of successful office experience with extensive word processing; postsecondary education may be substituted for required experience at the rate of one year of education for one year of experience. A valid driver's license is required. The scope of the position requires working evenings and weekends. Occasional out-of-town travel, including overnight stays, is required
Preferred Qualifications:
Education: A bachelor's degree in business, management, education, social work, psychology or a closely related field is preferred At least one year of experience in program planning, social work, and/or program management is preferred. At least one year of direct work experience with low-income, first-generationhigh school students is preferred. At least one year of teaching or counseling experience at the secondary or post-secondary level is preferred.
