Position Highlights |
The Department of Disability and Psychoeducational Studies (DPS) in the College of Education (COE) invites applications for a full-time appointment as an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Rehabilitation Studies and Services undergraduate program.
This appointment begins in August 2025. This career-track appointment is not eligible for tenure. The position involves teaching of lecture/hybrid/online/independent study courses with undergraduate students. Additionally, the position will work with the Faculty Chair on curricular design, attend faculty meetings, participate in program evaluation, and engage in other duties such as student orientation and advising in collaboration with the College Advising Office, convocation programs, and other service activities. Individuals who apply should be committed to working with faculty members in advancing scholarship and practice. The program faculty places a high value on collaboration both within the program and across disciplines. We seek individuals who bring energy, leadership, and a deep commitment to academic excellence, within the scholar-practitioner tradition. We are particularly interested in candidates who are able to work with diverse students, stakeholders, and colleagues and are informed by principles of disability studies/independent living/universal design. Duties & Responsibilities |

- Teach courses (at least 12 units) per semester
- Actively participate in
departmental, college, and university service activities - Engage in outreach at the local
and national professional level - Mentor
and advise students
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication, collaboration, organization, and interpersonal experience.
- Familiarity with accreditation processes and standards for interpreter education programs.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Doctorate in Deaf Studies, Deaf Education, or a closely related field; candidates who are "all but dissertation (ABD)" will be considered with the requirement of degree completion prior to the date of hire.
- Interpreter Certification (NIC, NAD, RID, CDI, or equitable qualification) required; interpreting experience expected.
- Membership in various interpreter, deaf, and interpreter training organizations.
- Record of effective teaching and professional activity.
- Teaching, service, and applied research experiences that contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education and that engage underrepresented communities; potential to teach in multiple formats (face to face, hybrid, online)
- Experience/commitment to fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment
- Experience with direct engagement and/or professional services with diverse communities, including, but not limited to, socioeconomic status, racial identity, ethnic identity, religious affiliation, language background, gender identity, disability status, and sexual orientation
- Experience with the discipline of Deaf Studies and Educational Interpreting
