The Role:

Our site in Decatur, Texas location is seeking a Carbon Research Scientist to join our team. The Technical Development team at our Decatur, TX site develops new technologies and processes for carbon and carbide materials to grow our core businesses. We are currently seeking a Research Scientist to become our carbon expert, driving innovation in carbon technologies through understanding, leadership, and creativity.

In this role you will report to the manager of Research and Development and lead advanced carbon research activities, defining needs, planning, and executing R&D activities relating to carbon science and post processing methodologies.

What You'll Do:

  • Become an expert of our carbon and carbide material production and post-processing methods.
  • Lead technology road mapping for carbon materials.
  • Plan and execute research projects to improve and develop new materials.
  • Collaborate with university and/or external research efforts.
  • Work with internal and external customers to solve complex challenges.
  • Perform material characterization and analysis.
  • Other projects as assigned.

What We Seek:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant technical field (chemistry, physics, materials science, etc.) with experience in carbon or carbide materials systems preferred.
  • Highly innovative - able to connect abstract information into actionable plans.
  • Experience in identifying and solving problems.
  • Quick learner with ability to apply knowledge to customer applications.
  • Work well with customers and with colleagues in a collaborative environment.
  • Invent and implement practical solutions to complex problems.
  • Humility and a love of learning and solving problems.
  • Exceptional communication abilities.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Characterization analysis experience a plus.
  • Candidate must have the capacity to comply with the federally mandated requirements of U.S. export control law.

  • Your ability to elevate our leadership position in the premium graphite market segment.
  • Implementation and timely execution of carbon technology roadmaps.
  • Innovative, practical solutions to key customer issues.
  • Ability to work effectively with the extended Decatur team.
