Pay Range:$24.40/hr - $28.20/hr

Bonus: $2,000 sign-on bonus

Position Summary:

The Sterile Processing Technician I is responsible for the decontamination and distribution of reusable medical equipment in the Sterile Processing department at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center/Miller Children's & Women's Hospital Long Beach. He/she retrieves, inspects, sterilizes, and delivers a variety of medical equipment throughout the hospital. The Sterile Processing Technician I prepares operating room case carts and sterile trays for all areas of the hospital. He/she ensures that carts and trays are promptly distributed and ready for immediate use.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

* Orders, restocks, and decontaminates sterilization equipment and instruments. Prepares tray instrumentation and packs case carts using aseptic techniques

* Possesses thorough knowledge of sterilization procedures for a variety of equipment and instruments. Uses best practices when decontaminating equipment to ensure safety of patients and caregivers.

* Regularly collects dirty equipment and instruments. Reliably sorts, loads, and decontaminates equipment and instruments in accordance with departmental policy.

* Ensures that specialty carts are stocked and promptly distributed for immediate use to ensure efficient allocation of hospital resources.

* Accurately documents sterilization procedures, tracking, and distribution of equipment in accordance with departmental policy. Maintains records of preventative maintenance and safety checks on equipment as necessary.

* Regularly participates in continuing education programs to ensure that departmental policies reflect best practices in the field.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements:

Qualifications/Work Experience



  • 1+ years of prior relevant work experience in sterile processing is preferred.
  • 2+ years of hospital sterile processing experience is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of aseptic and sterile processing techniques is required.


Education/Certiifcation/Licensure



  • International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) and/or Certified Board Sterile Processing Department (CBSPD) certification is preferred.
