About the role:

The Computational Biology group at 10x Genomics is looking for an outstanding intern to work with us in the summer of 2024. This person will develop novel algorithms to exploit the characterization of biological systems using spatial genomics assays (i.e. Visium HD and Xenium). This person will work closely with the applications teams to push the state-of-the-art of analysis methods of spatial transcriptomics. Individuals applying for this position should have a strong background in algorithm development and analysis of spatial transcriptomics datasets. You have a deep understanding of the theory, implementation, and practical application of various relevant algorithms. You can take an idea, quickly implement it in code, and evaluate its performance. You must be self-starters, strategic thinkers, action driven, and thrive in a fast paced environment.

Key Opportunities

Required Skills and Background



  • Currently enrolled in a MS or Bachelor's degree program in biology, bioinformatics, computational/systems biology, physics, mathematics, computer science.
  • Proficiency in programming with R and/or Python, with the ability to write efficient, well-structured code.
  • Strong research skills to explore existing methods in scientific literature, adapt them to specific challenges, and implement them effectively.
  • A creative and analytical problem solver with a passion for uncovering biologically meaningful insights from complex data.
  • Experience in an applied biological field such as immunology, tumor biology, neurobiology, or a related discipline.
  • Familiarity with image analysis techniques and cell segmentation methods is a plus.

Below is the base pay range for this full-time position. The actual base pay will depend on several factors unique to each candidate, including one's skills, qualifications, and experience. At 10x, base pay is also just one component of the Company's total compensation package. This role is also eligible for 10x's equity grants, its comprehensive health and retirement benefit programs, and its annual bonus program or sales incentive program.
