Job Purpose

The Product Engineer is responsible for the design and engineering analyses of thermal batteries, thionyl chloride batteries, and lithium-ion batteries. The product engineer supports all aspects of battery development from concept, quotation, detailed design, quality requirements, supplier feedback, prototyping, qualification, and transition to production.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Review customer requests for quotes (RFQs) and estimate engineering man-hours required to perform related tasks.
  • Generate battery designs from customer supplied requirements such as power, energy, and size envelope specifications. Create fully detailed technical data packages (drawings and specifications) required to realize battery designs.
  • Review battery designs, engineering work, and project planning with customers.
  • Release and revise drawings through formal review process.
  • Coordinate with purchasing and quality to obtain component quotes, supplier feedback, and to define inspection requirements.
  • Participate in the manufacture and testing of prototype batteries.
  • Summarize project progress and test data in written reports.
  • Help transition projects from engineering to production.
  • Perform sustaining design activities to improve manufacturing processes and reduce costs. Create and execute test plans to validate proposed changes.
  • Investigate and solve problems encountered during production such as low yields and quality escapes. Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of Solidworks and Office 365.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • College level written and verbal English.
  • Working knowledge of engineering mathematics.
  • Logical with strong root-cause problem solving ability.
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification is a plus.
  • General knowledge of manufacturing processe
