Lubbock Director 40386BR ORDC Position Description Directs, plans, coordinates and supervises the operations and activities of a specialized unit or small department; develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities. Serves as liaison with university personnel and community at large. Works under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgement. About the Department and/or College Research Development & Communications alleviates the administrative burden on faculty by offering a comprehensive range of research development services, such as proposal development, organizing and supporting large, interdisciplinary teams, and providing grant editing and graphics support. RDC also manages limited submissions and internal funding opportunities, oversees research communications from the R&I division, handles all R&I office websites, coordinates external communications to support strategic research initiatives like the strategic hiring campaign, and organizes events or communications to strengthen government and industry relations. Major/Essential Functions
- Responsible for all RDC personnel actions including recruitment, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, etc.
- Provide opportunities as appropriate for professional growth and development of RDC staff. - Prioritize areas for growth within the team as aligned with the vision for the office as well as the values of the Office of Research & Innovation overall.
- Develop and implement programming that facilitates new opportunities for faculty to work across disciplines, resulting in successful proposals.
- Support RDC staff in the communication of programming both internally and externally. - Build strong relationships across the TTU campus with Associate Deans of Research, College research development/administrative professionals, Researchers, and Faculty. - Collaborate with Marketing & Communications on research communications. - Guide the development of communications, including presentations, strategic messaging, talking points, and lead in-person and virtual meetings. - Collaborate with Government Relations as requested by the AVP.
- Provide oversight for the limited submissions process, and offer guidance and leadership as needed.
- Assist faculty from ideation through submission targeting multi-institutional/multi-million-dollar, large center-type grant opportunities. - Guide the RDC team and faculty teams through project management of proposals. - Offer thoughtful guidance to faculty teams as questions or issues arise and facilitate communications with agencies as needed. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related area required plus five years progressively responsible management experience. Additional education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Business Administration, Communications, Educational Research, Engineering, Marketing, Psychology, Science, Public Affairs, or a closely related field. Extensive experience in managing projects or programs, grant proposal writing, and/or research development.
