Position Description

Performs executive, administrative duties concerning various aspects of operational management in support of the Service Plus philosophy and mission of Texas Tech.
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Enrollment Marketing provides strategic leadership and implementation of marketing initiatives that highlight Texas Tech University's achievements, history and offerings, while showcasing its potential to future students across Texas and beyond.
Reporting to the Vice President for Marketing & Communications, the AVP will develop innovative, high-impact marketing strategies that elevate Texas Tech's national brand reach. They will oversee undergraduate and online enrollment campaign execution and drive continuous improvement across content, digital marketing and design teams.
This role requires a collaborative and experienced marketing leader with a passion for higher education, a strong understanding of process improvement, and expertise in marketing technology solutions. The AVP will align content, digital marketing and design efforts to deliver efficient, on-brand campaigns that enhance awareness and drive undergraduate and online enrollment growth. The AVP will also serve as reviewer for all enrollment materials across the university to ensure alignment with institutional goals.

About the Department and/or College

In Marketing & Communications, we deliver high-quality communications that tell the story of Texas Tech in the most compelling way possible.

Major/Essential Functions


  • Lead and execute brand strategies by prioritizing initiatives and managing advertising efforts across print and digital platforms.
  • Mentor, lead and supervise Marketing & Communications professional staff, including the senior directors of online marketing and undergraduate enrollment marketing. Responsibilities include hiring, setting expectations, training, professional development, performance evaluations and, when necessary, disciplinary actions, including termination.
  • Foster cross-departmental collaboration with Undergraduate Admissions, the Office of the Provost and academic departments to refine brand strategies and deliver targeted messaging aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Develop and implement a forward-looking strategic plan for enrollment marketing, storytelling and web initiatives that aligns with the university's mission and strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with the Vice Presidents for Enrollment Management and Marketing & Communications on annual marketing planning, establish measurable departmental goals, and oversee quarterly prioritization of key initiatives and communications.
  • Manage the annual budget, including vendor procurement, variance forecasting and reallocating resources to maximize impact. Ensure marketing programs operate efficiently, effectively and within fiscal guidelines.
  • Stay current on best practices and trends in marketing and higher education, evaluating emerging ideas for potential implementation.
  • Perform other duties relevant to the role or as assigned by the Vice President or designee.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required in appropriate field based on assigned area of responsibility; eight years of professional and management experience in related area. Additional job-related education may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Earned a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications or related field of study.
  • Eight or more years of relevant and progressive professional experience in managing marketing and communications teams in a corporate, nonprofit, agency or higher education setting.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic marketing plans and impactful campaigns that enhance university visibility and attract new student audiences, contributing to sustained enrollment growth.
  • Skilled in evaluating higher education programs to identify growth opportunities.
  • Proficient with higher education technologies, marketing workflows and project management tools.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to make data-informed decisions and implement detailed process frameworks.
  • Excellent project planning, organizational and multitasking abilities, with a track record of meeting deadlines in fast-paced environments.
  • Effective leadership and team management skills; able to coach, collaborate and build partnerships with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff and industry partners.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage varied audiences.
  • Highly self-directed, detail-oriented and committed to delivering results.
  • Capable of exercising sound judgment, maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion.
  • Willingness to travel regionally or nationally, independently or with executive leadership, as needed.
  • Dedicated to fostering transformative change with a start-up mindset and inclusive, collaborative approach.
  • Experience leading, mentoring or advising a team of professionals and promoting accountability
  • Expertise in marketing technology solutions
  • Managing marketing efforts to move potential customers through engagement funnel and/or recruitment experience
  • Experience ensuring consistent execution within a brand's visual identity standards
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of how to build compelling brand stories
