Essential Job Duties
Duties Include:

  • Performs cultivation of archaea and bacteria from both human- and rumen-associated samples.
  • Performs routine technical laboratory procedures in molecular biology and microbiology that includes but not limited to PCR, flow cytometry, and extractions of DNA, RNA, and protein.
  • Maintains laboratory notebooks, records, and analyzes experimental data.
  • Assists in the preparation of laboratory reports and manuscripts.
  • Assists in operating and maintaining anaerobic chambers, biosafety cabinets, flow cytometer, plate readers, spectrophotometers, and other laboratory equipment as needed.
  • Assists in training users of shared equipment located in the laboratory.
  • Follows established procedures and properly record results.
  • Helps with laboratory management.

  • Experience in operating anaerobic chambers, flow cytometers, and gas cylinders.
  • Experience in using Laboratory Information Management Systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that include oral and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility with work schedule to occasionally work evenings or weekends.
  • Able to work alone and as part of a highly collaborative team.
  • Able to work with intestinal, fecal, and sewage samples.
  • Able to help with animal experiments.
