Health Professions Grants Team NP Supervisor - Health Sciences Assistant/Associate Clinical Professors

The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis seeks an innovative and highly motivated experienced master's-degree or doctorally (preferred) prepared nurse practitioner to join the faculty as a supervisor for Advanced Practice Provider (APP) fellows and faculty in clinical practice under the direction of the Associate Dean for Practice. The NP supervisor will serve in a unique role focused on two main areas; first is working closely with the Project Director of the APP Fellowship program to help oversee the education and training of the cohort and second is providing supervision to APP fellows and clinical faculty new to practice in the nurse led mobile clinic and partnering community clinics. In this role, the NP Supervisor will provide oversight of CFPs who provide direct clinical care to patients, precept students, and participate in clinical teaching activities in grant funded activities. This search is open to Family Nurse Practitioners.

This is a full-time, non-tenured position at the assistant or associate rank in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor (HSCP) Series or the Clinical X Series at UC Davis Health, which is located on a modern, 140-acre campus in Sacramento, California. The Sacramento campus is home to the School of Nursing, School of Medicine, UC Davis Medical Center (including a level-I trauma center and burn unit and a full range of outpatient services), a fully accredited children's hospital, and an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center. Practice locations include UC Davis Health Medical Center, UC Davis department and primary care network clinics, Sacramento County clinics, northern California FQHCs, and other clinical sites.

SUPERVISING RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Associate Dean for Practice, the NP Supervisor will collaborate closely with the Associate Directors of the Nurse Led Mobile Clinic and the APP Fellowship Programs to provide clinical supervision and high-quality education and training across the two programs. This NP Supervisor will take a significant leadership role in the health professions grant clinical programs and will be responsible for the APP Fellows and nurse led mobile clinic mentoring and preceptor programs to include contributing to further development and evaluation of the preceptor and mentoring program processes and ongoing quality improvement. The NP Supervisor will assist in developing a process to conduct site visits to evaluate APP Fellows in their clinical sites in collaboration with the Director and other faculty in the APP Fellowship Program. This position will also be responsible for supervising NP new faculty and learners in the Nurse Led Mobile Clinic in collaboration with the Associate Director of that program.

TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES:

CFP faculty spend 40-80% time in teaching; therefore, the NP Supervisor must be prepared to guide new APPs in their clinical teaching role in the mobile clinic and community clinic environment. In the absence of a faculty, the NP Supervisor may need to step up and precept and/or mentor FNP or PA students or FNP or PA fellowship learners. Under the direction of the Associate Dean for Practice, the NP Supervisor will assist in the development of training materials and other clinic related administrative work and may provide . Responsibilities include working in collaboration with the Associate Directors and other faculty of the Nurse Led Mobile Clinic and the NP Residency Programs, to ensure quality instruction and clinical teaching in the residency and mobile clinic. Duties may include developing curricula, teaching skills labs, lecturing in their areas of expertise, learner mentoring and/or advisement, and learner formative and summative evaluation. Responsibilities may also include participation in learner remediation, program admissions, accreditation processes and program assessment to include serving on committees essential to the NP residency and mobile clinic programs and the faculty practice.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBLITIES:

The successful full-time candidate provide direct and indirect supervision of clinical services approximately 40- 70 percent of the time. This clinical placement will primarily be divided between the APP Fellowship and the SON Nurse-Led Mobile Clinic projects. This role includes supervision of junior clinical nurse faculty, APP Fellows, and may include some direct patient care and occasional precepting of graduate FNP or PA students from the School of Nursing. The incumbent mentors NP junior faculty, APP Fellows, and to some extent, students in the clinical setting. This includes overseeing procedures, providing feedback, assisting with training, and evaluating performance. The NP Supervisor may also be involved in scholarly activity and SON committee service commensurate with this position.

A candidate for appointment in the HSCP Series is evaluated by the following criteria, which is appropriately weighted according to the primary emphasis on clinical and clinically relevant teaching and patient care services and according to the needs of the school and the individual's responsibilities in the specific discipline. A master's degree or doctoral (preferred) degree (e.g. D.N.P, Ph.D., Ed.D.) is required. The candidate must meet the following qualifications, depending on profession:

* Graduate of a nationally accredited nurse practitioner program with active N.P. certification.

* Active, unrestricted NP licensed in the State of California.

* Possess D.E.A. certification or be eligible for certification as applicable.

* Possess B.L.S. (C.P.R.) certification.

* Eligible for allied health professional credentialing.

* Candidates must have worked a minimum of five years as a licensed N.P.

* Must be comfortable in a highly interactive teaching/learning environment that includes collaborative teaching, significant faculty/student interaction and strong clinical integration.
