Position Overview
The Assistant Project Manager position provides design leadership and oversight of program support staff for the Stormwater Program Practice. Assistant Project Managers will coordinate with a larger multidisciplinary project team to deliver a variety of projects for both public and private clients while being mentored toward a Project Management role. The APM interacts with clients to ensure satisfaction is met and promotes responsiveness.

Key Responsibilities



  • Provide technical and task leadership to all types of projects within the group.
  • Demonstrate emerging responsibility for the coordination and completion of projects.
  • Work with the Practice Lead to deliver Stormwater Program projects by coordinating with the project team, setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, and monitoring project progress.
  • Develop innovative environmental protection strategies by acquiring knowledge at the forefront of an evolving stormwater program market.
  • Work on stormwater program projects, including stormwater regulatory support, stormwater utilities, public education and outreach, watershed plans, and process improvement.
  • Collaborate with other Water Resources Practices to deliver a full suite of stormwater services to clients.
  • Work with various client types including local governments, state agencies, nonprofit organizations, and industries.
  • Compile and present findings and results of studies and analyses and write reports.
  • Help build a diverse team and mentor team members.
  • Conduct field work and site visits.


Skills + Experience



  • Four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited program in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Environmental Science and Technology, Biological Science, Landscape Architecture, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in water resources, public works, civil engineering or GSI
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter with strong drive to better oneself, project team, and community
  • Strong writing skills
  • Understanding of common stormwater regulations and permitting requirements
  • Experience with ArcGIS Pro or other GIS Software
  • Experience with AutoCAD desirable but not necessary

  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Work will primarily be in an office setting with limited opportunities to be exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

  • Must have visual acuity for viewing a computer screen, the ability to talk, hear and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 5 pounds frequently and up to 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Additional physical duties may be required as necessary.
