What to Expect
Tesla is seeking to hire a technical Fire Protection Engineering Lead to lead a dynamic team of fire protection engineers, fire suppression system designers, and fire alarm designers in delivering high-quality fire protection solutions.This role requires a skilled individual with a background in fire protection engineering and a strong track record of working collaboratively with interdisciplinary design and engineering disciplines, construction teams, and local authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).The ideal candidate will bring leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to ensuring the safety and compliance of fire protection systems at Tesla's headquarters in Austin, TX.
What You'll Do
- Lead and manage a team of fire protection engineers, fire suppression system designers, and fire alarm designers
- Collaborate with CSA and MEP disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, and plumbing teams, to design and integrate fire protection systems
- Work closely with construction teams to provide technical guidance and resolve any on-site fire protection system issues
- Ensure that all fire protection systems meet local, state, and national fire codes and standards
- Serve as the primary point of contact for authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), ensuring project compliance with applicable regulations
- Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and code compliance checks for fire protection systems
- Manage and oversee the preparation of fire protection system design documents, calculations, specifications, hydraulic calculations and construction documents
- Mentor and develop team members by providing leadership, training, and career development opportunities
- Prepare and manage project budgets, schedules, and resources for fire protection engineering projects
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or equivalent experience
- Professional Engineering (PE) licensure in Fire Protection Engineering in the state of Texas
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in fire protection engineering in large industrial, manufacturing, data center, or large commercial environments
- In-depth knowledge of fire protection codes, standards, and regulations, including NFPA, ICC, local fire codes, related building codes and standards
- Experience in a leadership or supervisory role
- Experience in the design, installation, and commissioning of fire suppression and fire alarm systems
- Ability to troubleshoot complex fire protection system issues and provide innovative solutions
- Proficiency in fire protection design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, HydraCAD, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite
- Preferred experience with dry fire suppression systems and experience using Revit software
