Python Developer (Mid-Level)

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT

• Must possess an active Top Secret/SCI clearance with an active polygraph. Both the clearance and polygraph need to be fully adjudicated. Interim clearances will not be accepted.

Best Value Technology, Inc. (BVTI) is a service-disabled veteran-owned small business (SDVOSB) who is looking to identify a Python Developer with a strong background in Django, MySQL, and Linux-based environments to join our team. In this role, you will not only build and maintain web applications but also work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, plan development schedules, and ensure timely, high-quality delivery. You will provide Tier 3 application support, handle quick-turnaround tasks from operations and customers (such as custom reports), and play a key role in improving processes and systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, develop, and maintain Django-based web applications.
• Write efficient, reusable, and well-documented Python code.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and end users to gather technical requirements and translate them into development tasks.
• Assist in development scheduling and task estimation to ensure project timelines are met.
• Create and optimize MySQL database schemas and queries.
• Support deployment processes and perform Linux-based DevOps tasks.
• Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Apache web server environments.
• Handle Tier 3 support escalations, diagnosing and resolving complex production issues.
• Respond to ad hoc customer and operations requests, including building custom reports and data extracts.
• Participate in technical design discussions and code reviews.
• Write and maintain internal documentation for systems, processes, and support workflows.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• 3+ years of professional experience with Python and Django.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases, specifically MySQL.
• Experience with Linux systems administration and shell scripting.
• Proficiency in configuring and supporting Apache web servers.
• Solid understanding of Git version control workflows (branching, pull requests, merging).
• Proven experience in gathering technical requirements from stakeholders and turning them into actionable plans.
• Ability to plan, estimate, and prioritize tasks in alignment with business needs.
• Strong debugging and performance tuning skills across backend and database layers.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
• Ability to manage priorities and deliver on short timelines for urgent requests.

DESIREABLE SKILLS

• Experience with RESTful APIs and third-party integrations.
• Familiarity with Docker and container-based development/deployment.
• Exposure to test automation frameworks (e.g., pytest, unittest).
• Basic front-end development skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
• Experience working with ticketing systems like Jira or ServiceNow.
• Knowledge of AWS services, particularly EC2, RDS, S3, CloudWatch, and IAM.
