Position Purpose

Stark State is seeking dedicated and vigilant Campus Security Officers to join our team. Our part time campus security officers play an essential role in ensuring the safety and security of students, staff and visitors within the college premises. What you do matters here!

Pay: $22.74 - $28.99 hour, commensurate with experience.
Location of Work: Stark State College Main (North Canton) and Stark State Akron, Downtown Canton Satellite Location ( Cornerstone)
Hours of Work:
Our buildings are open from 6:30 AM to 10:00 PM, and we have primary shift coverage needs during the following times:
  • Morning Shift: 7:00 AM - 12:00 PM

  • Afternoon Shift: 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM

  • Evening Shift: 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Candidates may be assigned to one or more of these shifts based on availability and campus needs. If you have flexibility or prefer a specific shift, please indicate your availability when applying.

The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of handling various security-related tasks.

Typical Responsibilities Include:

  • Vehicle and foot patrol of assigned areas including parking lots and campus buildings to detect and deter security threats and respond to alarms and emergencies in a timely manner.
  • Unlocking of doors as assigned & ensuring premises are properly secured, answering inquiries and complaints from members of the college community and the public.
  • Monitor surveillance cameras and report any suspicious activities.
  • Conduct routine inspections of buildings and facilities and help enforce college policies and regulations.
  • Provide assistance and support during events and activities.
  • Work cooperatively with other emergency responders and agencies.
  • Write detailed incident reports and maintain accurate records.

To Be Considered You'll Need:

  • High School diploma or GED. Associate's Degree preferred, although not required.
  • A minimum of five years' experience as law enforcement officer.
  • Must currently be a commissioned peace officer of the State of Ohio and completed Peace Officer Basic Training Academy that is approved by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTA). Persons who are eligible to be commissioned but are not currently commissioned, as a condition of employment, must obtain a commission with a law enforcement agency within 30 days of hire.
  • Must possess a valid Ohio Drivers License and have an insurable record as defined by our agency.
  • Available to work flexible hours between the hours of 6:30am and 10:00pm, which may include evenings and weekends.
