Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
University Development's purpose is to support the mission of the university by raising private resources to enhance financial support for students, faculty, programs, and facilities. University Development provides leadership and centralized services to all development offices throughout the University, serving as a focal point for annual giving, application development and IT support; campaign management; constituent programs; corporate and foundation relations; donor relations; gift planning; gift services; industry relations; marketing/communications; parents giving; principal gifts; prospect management, research and analytics; regional programs; scholarships and student aid; talent management; university events; and volunteer engagement.

Position Summary |
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy.
UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station in Chapel Hill, NC. The Estates Administrator will play a key role in supporting the University's Gift Planning team by assisting with the settlement of trusts and estates, managing the University's Life Insurance Gift Program, This role requires an individual with strong attention to detail, legal knowledge, and excellent organizational skills to ensure the efficient administration of estate-related gifts and donor commitments. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Completion of an accredited paralegal program; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* Assist in the review, tracking, and settlement of trusts and estates in which the University is a beneficiary.
* Work closely with attorneys, executors, financial institutions, and University stakeholders to facilitate estate and trust distributions.
* Oversee and manage the Life Insurance Gift Program, including policy documentation and beneficiary coordination.
* Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with legal and financial regulations.
* Assist in preparing reports, legal correspondence, and internal briefings related to estate and gift administration.
Collaborate with the Gift Planning team on donor outreach, ensuring an excellent donor experience. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
* Prior experience in estate administration, legal work, or financial services.
* Paralegal certificate, legal training, or a paralegal program.
* Strong understanding of trust and estate laws, financial instruments, and planned giving strategies.
* Exceptional organizational skills with a keen eye for detail and compliance.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with donors, attorneys, and financial institutions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and donor database systems (preferred). |
