Job Summary

A demonstrated experience performing high complexity testing in the following laboratory procedures: Applicant must have experience in paraffin sectioning, embedding, immunohistochemistry, immunofluoresence, performing routine and special stains, and grossing Dermatology specimens. Knowledge of guidelines established by JCAHO, CAP, OSHA and CLIA. Demonstrated technical and mechanical skills to operate and perform preventative maintenance on equipment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Histology certification (ASCP) or eligibility.
  • Meet CLIA/CAP High complexity testing personnel educational requirements as outlined in Code of Federal Regulations (CFR): 42 CFR 493.1489
  • 1+ years experience paraffin embedding, sectioning, and staining.
  • Ability to perform paraffin embedding, sectioning, and staining.
  • Ability to perform complex laboratory procedures and follow established protocols.
  • Ability to work under time constraints with the ability to prioritize work based upon departmental turnaround time, requirements and priority request.
  • Ability to multi-task various projects and complete projects within the given time line.
  • Must have technical and mechanical skills to operate and perform job functions.
  • Must possess the ability to follow instructions as defined.
  • Must follow established protocols and guidelines for specimen handling.
  • Must have tact and diplomacy.
  • Must maintain patient confidentiality before, during and after specimen test preparation and procedure.
  • Continuously works at establishing a professional working relationship with all departmental personal.
  • Knowledge of guidelines established by LCAHO, College of American Pathology (CAP) and the National Society of Histotechnology (NSH).
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) College of American Pathologists (CAP)and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO)as well as Clinical Laboratory safety regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the laboratory and EMR systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • 40% - Embedding & Sectioning and Preparation of Histologic and Histochemical Slides.
  • 20% - Grossing and Routine Immunohistochemical, Immunofluorescent and Special Stains.

Department Overview

The Department of Dermatology provides a variety of outpatient services: clinical dermatological surgical services, Dermatopathology services, pigment lesion services, cosmetic surgery, and Mohs surgery. This part-time position supports the UC Davis Dermatopathology Service/Mohs Laboratories by providing support for the technical areas within the Dermatopathology Service/Mohs Laboratories.. Work Environment

  • Must be able to work per diem Monday-Friday with variable hours and overtime as needed.
