The Upper School is home to students in Grades 9-12 and is characterized by advanced inquiry, lively discussion, deep engagement with topics, a strong sense of community, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Position Begins: August 2025

Status: 1.0, Full time, Exempt

Department: Instructional faculty; Upper School English

Salary Range: $26,000- $28,500

Position Description

St. Paul Academy and Summit School seeks candidates for the position of Upper School English Teacher for a one-semester leave replacement.

The position begins in mid-August 2025 and ends in December 2025. The course load will likely consist of two sections of ninth-grade English and two sections of upper-level elective courses (grades 11 and 12). The final assignment will be determined by the department after the hire is complete. In addition to teaching, the position will also include leading an advisory group.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:




  • Teach four sections of Upper School English (section size typically about 13-15 students).



  • Lead an advisory group of 8-10 students



  • Attend department, faculty, teaching-team, and grade-level meetings



  • Supervise one study hall



  • Participate in professional development programming



  • Produce timely and thorough feedback and evaluation of student work



  • Maintain timely and effective communication with colleagues, administrators, students, and parents



  • Maintain and report grades accurately and in a timely way



  • Write narrative reports two times per year



  • Participate in grade-level retreats and other chaperoning responsibilities



  • Other responsibilities as assigned.




Requirements:




  • BA in English or a related field



  • Experience teaching or other substantial work with adolescents



  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills



  • Commitment to developing and practicing cultural competence in their work



  • Support for SPA's mission and for the vision of the Upper School



  • Eagerness to join a collaborative department and teaching team
