Nurse Practitioner - Global Svcs

Description All nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, CNMC Policies and Procedures and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Professional Model of Care requires registered professional nurses to be responsible and accountable for their own practice. CNMC has the expectation that RNs will develop relationships within the community that support the health and well being of the community at large. The Nurse Practitioner will be credentialed by the medical staff and licensed to function in an expanded nursing role as a clinical practitioner to a group of patients. Will act under the collaborative supervision of a physician and is responsible for the management of care to patients assigned including: diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, and the implementation and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care. All activities will be performed within the guidelines of protocols agreed upon by the medical and nursing divisions. Will provide leadership and consultation within a specialty area through participation in unit/departmental initiatives and mentorship of others.
Qualifications

Minimum Education
MSN Masters degree in Nursing with certification in specialty from a recognized certifying body. (Required)
BSN (Preferred)

Minimum Work Experience
5 years Related experience (Required) And
3 years In the care of children (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Eligible for certification.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Basic computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word, and the GroupWise e-mailing system.
Continuing education credits necessary to maintain certification in specialty.
Demonstrates effective conflict management skills.

Required Licenses and Certifications
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Licensed as an advanced practice nurse in the District of Columbia, and Credentialed to practice by the Medical Staff Office at CNMC. (Required)

Functional Accountabilities
Clinical Practice



  • Assess clinical status of each patient, utilize medical and nursing knowledge.


  • Accurately, oversee care coordination for patients managed by Global Services, discuss care with the treating team and provide updates to the sponsor; develop and implement an appropriate plan of care to address patient problems; write patient care orders/prescribe therapy and or interventions as needed.


  • Identify significant changes in patient status using physical exam, lab values, and other diagnostic tests and adjust plan of care accordingly; differentiate between normal and abnormal clinical findings; perform procedures as indicated (see position specific competency details).


  • Prescribe legend drugs according to CNMC guidelines.


  • Participate in and organize multidisciplinary patient care and planning conferences.


  • Be a clinical resource in area of specialty for parents and the interdisciplinary care team.


Communication



  • Model consultation skills as a member of the interdisciplinary team.


  • Collaborate with nursing and other health care professionals to plan and implement system change.


  • Provide a point of contact for patients and families pre, post and throughout hospitalization.


  • In collaboration with the patient care team assess learning needs of patients and parents and provides for education as necessary .


Professional Practice/Research

  • Participate in the evaluation of care provided to patients within specialty area and communicate findings to appropriate personnel; share expertise and knowledge in area of specialty with other health care professionals.


  • Participate in the review, revision and development of care protocols and standards of patient care.


  • Identify staff development needs and communicate as appropriate.


  • Model CNMC's values and beliefs; inspire and encourage teamwork.


  • Oversee the care coordination by the Nurse Navigators and Patient Care Coordinators


  • Complete annual self evaluation.


Research



  • Ensure nursing practice is based on evidence of best practice.


  • Accountable to support the Division of Nursing's Performance Improvement process (division or unit level).


  • Evaluate and disseminate information pertaining to the research of others in area of specialty.


  • Support and is aware of the on-going research of others in area of specialty at CNMC.


  • Participate and guide others in the research process.
