About The Position
At the University of Minnesota (UMN), we are dedicated to changing lives through research, education, and outreach. The Office of Information Technology (OIT) - the University's central IT department - offers an environment of trust, collaboration, and mission-focused work. Join our team and help us make a positive difference to the University as a first-level Data Center Infrastructure Operations professional.

This position is responsible for all day-to-day operations within a live production enterprise environment. Ideal candidates will maintain cleanliness, security, and compliance throughout our facilities. They will assist senior data center staff and help ensure the smooth operation of enterprise systems, collaborating across departments, and supporting a variety of teams and initiatives within the OIT department.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to support and maintain stability and security of data center spaces, core node sites, and IT/Network closets.
  • Plan, design, consult, and execute small to medium Data Center projects.
  • Create, track, maintain, respond, and resolve Data Center related incidents and service requests (Moves, adds, and changes).
  • Participate in post-mortems and after-action reviews in response to service outages or failures.
  • Monitor and maintain Data Center IT and facility infrastructure and tools.
  • Support the onboarding, coaching, mentoring, training, coordination, and work direction of student employees of the Data Center team.
  • Create, maintain, and review documentation related to Data Center projects, operations, procedures, and metrics.
  • Maintain environments that adhere to highly restricted data (HIPAA, FERPA, PCI, NIST 800-171, CMMC Level 2, etc.) as required and review/remediate security audits.
  • Participate in on-call rotation, which involves carrying a communication device, and is expected to respond during non-business hours to resolve production problems and perform scheduled off-hour activities.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in a related field and OR a comparable combination of education, training, and experience to equal at least four years.
  • Ability to work independently to define and complete projects in a set timeframe.
  • Commitment and ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and deliver effective solutions.
  • Ability to lift light to heavy weight, up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with network and system troubleshooting tools.
  • Previous experience working in an enterprise data center environment.
  • IT certifications such as ITIL, A+, Network +, Security+, Low Voltage, or vendor support certifications from Dell, HP, or Lenovo.
  • Understanding of core Lean/Agile principles or Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
  • Desire to learn about supporting enterprise IT data centers.
  • Action-oriented with an energy and enthusiasm for taking on new opportunities and challenges.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $60,000 - $67,000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
