A Sr. Engineer of Cell Engineering will lead the development of cells at suppliers and testing to support the needs of a global Li-Ion battery business in the areas of new product development, technology development, warranty analysis, and supplier quality management. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in electrodes process and cell assembly, with a strong background in battery cell development. Major responsibilities include collaboration with quality, engineering, and manufacturing teams to support supplier qualifications, execute new product development projects, support the development of technology roadmaps, and advanced quality initiatives. This includes working in a collaborative team environment with marketing, project management, quality, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, agency/safety teams, and global manufacturing operations.

You'll be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:
  • Drive best-in-class product performance within cell supply base by defining next generation cell specifications, critiquing supplier designs and processes, and driving strategic corrective actions and continuous improvements.

  • Support negotiations and relationship management with cell suppliers on key areas of cell qualification, critical quality issues, and product roadmaps.

  • Support production teams through process and equipment related troubleshooting and continuous improvement. Review, interpret, and summarize statistical data to drive process improvement.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers, to develop and optimize battery cell designs and processes.

  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and other documentations to communicate results and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and emerging technologies related to Li-ion battery cell development.

What TOOLS you'll bring with you:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrochemistry, or similar fields.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrochemical systems (e.g. Li-ion cells, ultracapacitors, fuel cells, etc.) environment.

  • Familiar with using SEM/EDS, TGA/DSC, GC-MS, XRD, FTIR, EIS, glovebox, cycle life testers and abuse testing

  • Experiences in Li-ion electrodes process and cell assembly are preferred.

  • Strong analytical thinking, as well as problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Capable of identifying critical process parameters.

  • Data analysis skills with tools such as Minitab, Python, MATLAB, are preferred.

  • Strong project management and communication skills, with a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver results on time.

  • Knowledge of materials used in Lithium-ion cell industry for cathode, anode, separator etc., and materials characterization techniques.

  • Knowledge of emerging battery chemistries is preferred.

  • Highly motivated self-driver with a never settle, always improving attitude.

  • A passion for driving cell development efforts with suppliers.

  • Ability to travel up to 10% (domestic and International).
