Senior Platform Engineer - Material Handling & Automation

We are seeking an innovative and experienced Senior Platform Engineer to drive the evolution of our distribution center automation systems. The ideal candidate will leverage extensive industry expertise to design, optimize, and enhance material handling and automation capabilities, ensuring maximum equipment reliability and operational performance. As a key member of our DC leadership team, you will proactively support production operations by integrating advanced technology solutions across diverse systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technology Integration & System Optimization:
    • Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of automated systems including conveyors, sortation systems, messaging frameworks, and control systems.
    • Integrate and support Warehouse Control Systems (WCS) with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) for seamless operations across material handling equipment such as Fortna, Bastion, Geek+, AutoStore, and Dematic platforms.
  • Operational Excellence & Production Support:
    • Serve as a technical subject matter expert, troubleshooting complex issues and leading failure analysis and incident review processes.
    • Utilize diagnostic tools to monitor system performance, analyze data trends, and drive proactive improvements.
  • Technical Troubleshooting:
    • Perform mechanical troubleshooting on automated systems, ensuring all moving parts and equipment are operating at peak efficiency.
    • Conduct electrical panel troubleshooting and review MHE systems performance to maintain high operational standards.
    • Leverage hands-on experience with Cognex and Keyence vision systems to enhance system accuracy and throughput.
  • Collaboration & Leadership:
    • Act as a critical partner to operations and business leaders, aligning technology initiatives with business priorities to optimize productivity and reduce labor costs.
    • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams spanning multiple departments and geographic locations, contributing to both project delivery and ongoing support models.
  • Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement:
    • Perform comprehensive reviews of MHE systems-including in-house testing and emulation-to ensure the highest quality standards for system functionality and reliability.
    • Identify, document, and champion enhancements that drive operational efficiencies and system performance.
  • Documentation & Reporting:
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation of project and production support activities, ensuring all technical processes are clearly recorded.
    • Provide regular site/field reports outlining progress, issues, and recommended next steps to Supervisors/Managers.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • 5+ years of MHE Systems Troubleshooting
    • 5+ years of MHE Design
    • 5+ years of Operational Design
    • 5+ years of message integration experience
    • PLC Programming experience
    • Demonstrated experience in DOO, FRD, FSD, and Detail Design processes
  • Proven experience with WCS implementations and integrations to WMS systems.
  • Hands-on expertise in conveyor, sortation, and material handling technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Experience with mechanical troubleshooting and electrical panel diagnostics.
  • Proficiency with Cognex and Keyence vision systems.
  • Strong documentation skills with a track record of managing production support life cycles.
  • Excellent communication and team collaboration skills with a strategic, business-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, results-driven environment, managing competing priorities.
  • Prior experience with Geek+, Bastion, Fortna, Dematic, and HighJump platforms is highly preferred.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is a plus.
