THE POSITION

Join the Bureau of Enforcement and Taxpayer Assistance (BETA) as a Field Enforcement Agent 1 and help keep businesses and individuals accountable to the public in their compliance with motor and alternative fuels taxes, business taxes, and cigarette and other tobacco taxes.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will observe and assist experienced agents in the field in order to gain the technical experience and knowledge necessary for investigating suspected violations of tobacco, motor fuels, and business tax laws and regulations. You will observe and assist with investigations, interviews, evaluating financial statements, and conducting periodic inspections. Work also involves preparing investigative reports with appropriate recommendations and substantiating documentation necessary to initiate legal action for your supervisor's for approval. Your responsibilities will also include participating in outreach initiatives to educate taxpayers, collection techniques and procedures that include the explanation of tax rules and obligations, and maintaining good public relations with taxpayers, various business entities, and agencies on the federal, local, and state levels. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in tax investigation work; or
  • Four years of experience in collections operations in a business, commercial, industrial, government, or finance office; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • You must possess an active motor vehicle license.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must reside in Lehigh County. Relocation is not an option.
  • You must be fluent in English and Spanish.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
