Description Provides nutrition expertise and education to Nutrition Services and health care staff as well as patients and caregivers. Prepares diet and recipe cards, and assists with nutrition coordination, calorie calculations, and formula recipes.
Qualifications

Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED (Required)
Associate's Degree (Preferred)

Minimum Work Experience
1 year experience in a hospital food service setting. (Preferred)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Ability to read and write English.

Required Licenses and Certifications
DC Food Handler Certification. 180 Days (Required)

Job Functions
Essential job duties:



  • Complies with current regulations and accrediting agency standards.


  • Promotes the "RELATE" (Reassure, Explain, Listen, Answer, Take Action, Express Appreciation) culture and a culture of Family/Patient-Center Care.


  • Uses nutritional standards of care approved for HSC.


  • Reviews and provides input for updating of policy and procedure related to nutritional services.


  • Assists in developing and accomplishing department quality goals.


  • Identifies problems, takes appropriate action, and evaluates the effectiveness of the action.


  • Participates actively on facility committees as appropriate to the area of assignment.


  • Provides nutrition expertise and/or education to Nutrition Services or health care staff.


  • Participates in in-service education programs.


  • Obtains food preferences from patients and assists in education of patient/caregivers regarding food availability menu.


  • Provides basic education of food-drug interactions


  • Participates in quality assurance activities for inpatient nutrition services


  • Assists with the coordination of nutrition screening of patients.


  • Assists the dietitians with calculating calorie counts.


  • Accurately calculates individual formula recipes for patients based on diet orders.


  • Assists in the development cycle menus for patients.


  • Participates in the applied sensory evaluation of food and nutrition products.


  • Responsible for checking the tray line and final trays before they are delivered.


  • Interfaces with patients to obtain diet and nutrition information to determine likes and dislikes.


  • Conducts meal rounds to obtain patients acceptability to meals.


  • Updates weekly PAR sheets.


  • Updates daily Food Production Tally Sheets.


  • Conduct Test Trays.


  • Prepares individual formula recipe cards per diets order for 24 hour period.


  • Prepares special infant formula for 24 hour period each day.


  • Updates formula label information program accurately.


  • Deliver formula to nursing units.


  • Preparing diet cards for patient tray line.


  • Updates patient tray line kardex in a timely fashion.


  • Processes diet orders from computer. Updates unit kardexes with the current diet order.


  • Prepares and updates recipes cards for snack kardex.


  • Performs tray line audit.


  • Participates in the monitoring of food quality, temperature and accuracy.


  • Conducts formulary inventory on a weekly basis.


  • Places formula order on a weekly basis, maintaining an adequate supply on hand at all times.


  • Alerts supervisor to problems or needs concerning equipment, supplies sanitation and safety.


  • Detects and reports spoiled or unattractive food or supplies.


  • Notifies Dietitians of admissions and discharges.


  • Cleans assigned areas following established cleaning procedures and schedules.


  • Assists in training new employees.


  • Works with the nutritional aides during tray line to ensure accuracy of diet provisions.
