We Think BIG about our projects at Broadwind Heavy Fabrications! You can be a part of them as we are searching for a Project Manager to join our team in Manitowoc, WI. The position is responsible for managing assigned projects, at the detailed level, to assure we are meeting assigned deadlines. This broad based project management role will focus on supporting a variety of project activities that can include managing daily project progress, coordinating external suppliers, interfacing with customers and APQP planning meetings. This role could report to and/or work with both Towers and Heavy Fabrications projects, based on business needs.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Project Management:.


  • Manage details of assigned projects to include understanding schedules, constraints, problems, fixes and options as they relate to deadlines.
  • Collaborate with production, purchasing, engineering and quality to facilitate project execution; provide regular communication regarding status, concerns, etc.
  • Review technical specifications and drawings to determine project scope, schedule, cost, and resource requirements as well as identifying potential risks.
  • Ensure all assigned projects meet internal and external customer expectations and have been executed in a professional manner.
  • Serve as interface between customer and organization to ensure critical information is available for timely completion of projects.
  • Create and maintain project spreadsheets, planning templates and other tools related to assigned projects.
  • Schedule project meetings to ensure timely launch and completions of assigned projects.
  • Manage and organize relevant project documentation.

Schedule Execution:


  • Manage the project to the specified requirements and schedule; report on progress and actively manage constraints to execute per the plan.
  • Lead initial project launches and coordinate with all teams to meet the business needs of the entire project.
  • Follow, track and report on details as the project moves through the various processes.
  • Record progress and assist in recommending improvements. Review and assist with coordination efforts to recommend best practices between all team levels.
  • Partner with Plant Manager, Director of Engineering and Director of Quality to ensure project success.
  • Communicate and document changes in project scope to track impact on schedule and cost.

Schedule Reporting:


  • Report internally any constraints and progress made via the project plan (Gantt chart, master schedule).
  • Participate in weekly production/planning meeting.
  • Apply Lean thinking and continuous improvement methodologies to projects managed.
  • Support EHS activities and requirements.
  • Support other duties and projects as assigned.

Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications:


  • Associate's Degree in a related discipline (engineering, manufacturing, project management, construction, etc.) required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline desired; Equivalent professional experience will be considered.
  • 5 yrs. experience in manufacturing, quality assurance and/or technical purchasing required.
  • Direct and hands-on experience managing various manufacturing/fabrication projects required.
  • Experience in multiple manufacturing environments is preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of component approval standards e.g. APQP and PPAP is desired.
  • Understanding of lean principles and/or ASQ Certification as a CQA and/or SSBB desired.
  • Candidate must hold a valid driver's license and proof of insurance.

Specialized skills/knowledge/ability


  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact with people at all levels (internal and external) and maintain excellent working relationships.
  • Keen attention to detail, with strong quality orientation and a methodical approach to work and problem resolution.
  • Robust ability to prompt/nudge action.
  • Highly motivated, self-starter capable of working and delivering results on own initiative.
  • Competent PC skills and comfort using MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, E-mail and other corporate based systems.
  • Able to read and interpret customer specifications, drawings and external customer documents to understand project requirements; Robust mechanical aptitude.
  • A combination of any of the following is a plus: understand basic terms related to engineering, welding and fabrication, ability to read/understand blueprints, knowledge of quality as it relates to our business and/or a basic knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Must be comfortable being on the manufacturing floor daily to personally manage flow if needed.
  • Ability to flex hours to meet the needs of the customer and/or to manage customer or project communications.
  • This position may require up to 25% travel, based on project.
