Commercial Banking Sales Intern (Summer Internship)

FLSA Status:

Non-exempt, Full-time

Reports to:

Market President, Houston

Location:

Houston Post Oak

Pay: $18 an hour

Summary of the Job: The sales-focused intern will work a ten (10 week) summer internship in the Houston office to improve the efficiency of the sales team, enhance our prospect engagement and conversation rates, and to utilize the surplus work in areas where needed.

Essential Functions:

  • Building Refining Prospect Profiles: The intern will conduct research to identify and develop comprehensive profiles for prospective clients, ensuring our sales approach is targeted and effective.
  • Uploading Prospects to 360View: The intern will be responsible for entering prospect information into our CRM system, 360View, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records for seamless follow-ups.
  • Help Craft Precall Plans: Collaborating with the sales team, the intern will assist in developing strategic precall plans that align with client needs and our sales objectives.
  • Make Outbound Appointment Setting Calls: The intern will engage in proactive outreach by making appointment-setting calls to potential clients, fostering relationships that will lead to future sales opportunities.
  • Join Commercial RM's on Client and Prospect Calls: The intern will accompany the relationship managers on client and prospect calls, gaining firsthand experience in client interactions and contributing to discussions.
  • Provide essential support to the Houston team in areas were needed and strive to enhance the effectiveness of the sales efforts in the Houston office.

Additional Functions:

  • Perform routine duties with minimal supervision using standard practices or procedures.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
  • Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
  • Perform duties as assigned to reach team goals.
  • Knowledge of financial institution policies, procedures and regulations preferred.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Pursuant of a bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
  • One or more years' experience in a customer service or sales employment role preferred but not required.

Necessary Skills:

  • Understanding of marketing and branding strategies.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style.
  • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to define problems; collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Basic personal computer skills including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Windows 7, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Intermediate skills in understanding and working with database input/output.
  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Highly motivated and a self-starter.
  • Excellent customer service skills, and experience in direct customer interface environments is preferred.

Physical Activity/Dexterity:

  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with fingers. Works with fingers and perceives attributes of objects and materials.

Physical Environment Demands:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 90% of the time.
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to visit other offices, conference rooms, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and telephone.
  • Constantly positions self to operate on a computer.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with other people throughout each day. Must be able to exchange accurate information when conversing.

Working Conditions/Environment:

  • Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.
  • Moderate noise (e.g. business office with computers and printers, light traffic).

Work Schedule/Hours:

  • Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Available for overtime as needed to complete job task.
  • Participates in an on-call rotation for after-hours support.
