Your Opportunity

The Associate Operations Manager primarily supports Pharma Technical Cell & Gene Therapy (PTC), where they will be the key contact responsible for all lab-related activities (e.g. Safety, Facilities, Materials, Equipment, Freezer mgmt, and Continuous Improvement) so as to create and maintain a safe lab environment where scientists can work effectively to deliver the pipeline and technology development goals, and that lab-related processes are efficient, straightforward, and sustainable.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide regular coverage and serve as key contact for lab spaces for at least 2 functions with stakeholders such as scientists, EHS, facilities, FMS, outside vendors, building manager, outside contractors etc.

  • Lead a Focus area across PTDU labs, such as Safety, Facilities, Materials, Equipment, Freezer mgmt, and Continuous Improvement.

  • Leverage BizOps' resources and expertise to initiate and implement more complex projects across functions.

  • Safety: Maintain a safe lab environment. Be a member/lead for the function's safety team. Provide training and oversight of lab safety programs, inspections, and lab walkthroughs. Update EHS records.

  • Facilities: Initiate and follow through on work orders and activities such as lab modifications, new lab setup, shutdowns, cleanouts, equipment moves, recycling.

  • Materials: Order supplies (e.g. HPLC columns, filters, media prep, consumables, reagents), screen and order new/misc items requested by the scientists, work with VWR to ensure stockrooms are organized and adequately stocked. Work independently to obtain quotes and replacing items when needed. Analyze and track materials spend.

  • Equipment: Ensures all essential lab equipment are regularly maintained and functioning, and records are updated. Surplus equipment are stored or recycled. Defective equipment are scheduled for repair, calibration, or replacement. Purchase and install new equipment. Also serve as FAE SPOC.

  • Freezer mgmt: Responsible for freezer inventories, sample tracking, FMS response, freezer upkeep, regular cleanouts etc.

  • Continuous improvement: 5S lab spaces, streamline lab-related processes (e.g. Kaizens, implement IT solutions) with an increased focus on standardization / adoption of best practices.

  • (Optional) May perform miscellaneous lab and admin tasks (e.g. biohazardous waste removal, UV spec self tests, notebook scanning)

  • Works independently with minimal or no supervision. Manager approves new projects and minimal instructions given only for new tasks or special assignments.

Qualifications

  • You have a Bachelor's degree or AA degree or relevant work experience in project management, lab management, administrative support or as a research assistant to include 2+ years of experience in a role responsible for coordinating lab operations or planning/coordination/materials roles (preferred)

Experience, Knowledge, Skills

  • You have good organizational skills and self-starter. Must possess strong problem solving skills, solid judgment, and be detail oriented.

  • You are able to work autonomously from established goals and strategic direction. Must be able to cope with multiple priorities and ambiguity.

  • You have a solid presentation, communications, networking, and influencing skills.

  • You possess proficiency in MS Office and gSuite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, gDoc, gSheet, gSlides).

  • Extended periods of sitting at a desk using the computer are required.

  • Must be able to lift 30-plus pounds, stand and sit for extended periods of time.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based in South San Francisco is $72,600-$134,800 for the Assistant Technical Writer level. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance.
