Department Summary

The Krishnamurty Lab in the Department of Discovery Oncology at Genentech is seeking a highly talented and motivated fall intern to perform discovery research and characterize novel drug discovery targets in the area of cancer immunology, with the ultimate goal of aiding the development of novel cutting-edge cancer therapies. The candidate will focus on research areas related to the tumor microenvironment, with an emphasis on interrogating stromal cell-immune cell interactions. The position allows the unique opportunity to participate in basic immunobiology research deeply embedded in drug discovery efforts, collaborate with scientists across different functions, and offers valuable insight about potential research careers in drug development.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco, on site.

The Opportunity

  • Help design, implement, and execute experimental approaches across both in vitro and in vivo systems to interrogate biological mechanisms and functions that modulate the tumor microenvironment and anti-tumor immunity

  • Utilize immunological, multiomic, and computational related experimental systems and technologies to gain a deeper resolution and understanding of the cellular and molecular complexity of the tumor microenvironment

  • Interpret and present results to various forums within and beyond the Discovery Oncology department.

  • Be part of a diverse, multidisciplinary team with the opportunity to interact and collaborate with other functional areas/groups.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are in September (Fall).

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

Who You Are

Required Education

Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).

Required Majors

  • Immunology

  • Cancer/Cell biology may also be considered

Required Skills

  • Hands-on research experience in an immunology-related biology lab.

  • Experience with immunological techniques, such as tissue digestion and primary cell isolation, multi-color flow cytometry and cell sorting, immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry

  • Experience with cellular and molecular biology techniques, such as in vitro cell culture systems, DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, genome editing technologies

  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Computational analysis skills and/or experience with multiomic technologies

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary for this position based on the primary location of California is $45.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
