What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support Configuration Management activities for the 02232 ND Configuration Management Department. In this position, you will work at the Systems-level to ensure your Systems and Product Realization Team colleagues meet configuration management requirements. You will need a comprehensive knowledge of corresponding computer applications to meet configuration management objectives including engineering data architectures, change control processing, and technical data package reporting and deliverables. Your activities will support broader efforts to implement common digital engineering workflows that can be used across weapons programs to accelerate and automate engineering processes and enable digital thread capabilities.

On any given day, you may be called on to:



  • Assist the team in defining and refining policies to establish a consistent configuration management framework.

  • Provide guidance on configuration management tools in ensure alignment with digital engineering initiatives.

  • Team with others to understand and provide solutions to configuration management challenges.

  • Provide training on tools and processes as needed and complete necessary user acceptance testing to ensure tools meet needs.

  • Author and contribute to documentation of processes and tools developed by the team.

  • Support technical teams to define and manage product configuration to ensure understanding of the as designed and as built configuration.

  • Support ND Modernization and Sustainment Programs.

  • Identify gaps in configuration management practices and develop necessary plans to improve implementation.

  • Serve in leadership roles, as necessary, to ensure effective team implementation of configuration management framework.

  • Engagement with management and technical teams to ensure clear understanding of Corporate digital engineering and configuration management requirements, program requirements, stakeholder needs, and system architecture.

    Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant will be required to work onsite in Albuquerque, NM. Some travel is required for this position.



Salary Range:

$99,400 - $193,600

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:



  • Master's degree in Configuration Management, Quality Management, Information Systems, Design Engineering, Business Administration, Communication or Journalism, or a relevant field , plus one (1) year of experience; OR Bachelor's degree in stated field, plus five (5) years of experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Active DOE Q clearance (or DOD Top Secret clearance).

  • Experience working with technical engineering teams to meet project deliverables in any or all these following areas: digital engineering, systems engineering, configuration management, requirements management, quality management, supply chain management, project management, and product lifecycle management.

  • Working knowledge in PDMLink and/or other equivalent configuration management IT applications.

  • Working knowledge of standard business applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Adobe, SharePoint).

  • Working knowledge of the product and/or software development lifecycle (e.g., Systems Engineering V, Product Lifecycle Management, etc.).



Qualifications We Desire:



  • Experience advocating and training a large population of teammates in configuration management applications and processes.

  • Experience working on engineering development program of 100 MOWs or more with broad documentation objectives (e.g., 10,000 - 100,000 of records).

  • CMII, ISO, PMBOK, INCOSE, Scrum/Agile (e.g., Jira), ASPE, APICS certifications.

  • Working knowledge of MCAD, ECAD, and/or ERP systems (e.g., CREO, SolidWorks, Mentor Graphics, PDMLink, Team Center, Oracle Mfg., ARAS Innovator, etc.).

  • Experience establishing and operating engineering change management processes (e.g., impact analyses, engineering review boards, change review boards, etc.) with a focus on assembly, parts, and material assurance.

  • Desire to learn new skills as required and develop expertise in areas that may be unfamiliar.

  • Self-motivated, positive individual comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as work well in multi-disciplinary team environment.

  • Strong interpersonal and teaming skills as well as strong organizational, communication, and planning skills and ability to think big picture and bring systems thinking approach.

  • Ability to prioritize and successfully respond to competing priorities and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • Ability to perform a balance of tactical and strategic systems engineering work focused in areas of requirements and risk identification and verification of solution implementation Experience working on nuclear deterrence (ND) programs and familiarity with enterprise partners and lifecycle of ND programs.



About Our Team:

ND Configuration Management (02232) is comprised of Systems Engineers and Technologists offering expertise to deliver innovative rapid development solutions and high-quality product definition to meet our nation's urgent security needs. We emphasize Configuration Management as part of the systems engineering discipline to meet program goals and are partnering with other Sandia Directorates to improve this capability for current and future programs.

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD).
